Would love a paintjob on mine but it's about £1300!

Everything in my head says 'No, no, Noooooo!' but, just for a laugh - has anyone done it - does anyone reckon it's possible.....?

I would possibly give it a go theoretically (but in practice I'm sure I'd not dare), but then we have a huge workshop and a very substantial air compressor with a spray paint thingy for it on the farm.

I did it once about 15 years ago and it looked fab. Everyone thought I'd bought a new trailer. However - I think it was beginners luck - so much that could go wrong!

Yes we did our old bedford ourselves, it cost about £200 in total. We rubbed down and uneven or rusty patches and then painted over them with some sort of ant-rust paint, then we painted the whole lorry with a light-coloured primer, and then we painted it with the top coat. Obviously it didn't look like an oakley but it looked a lot better than before. Unfortunately it was written off in an accident a few months later and ended up as scrap. A man who didn't even have a driving license pulled out straight in front of us when we were doing 30mph, RIP red lorry

Some friends of mine painted their lorry with ordinary gloss paint and it looks amazing! They did a professional standard job with an up to the minute swirly pattern which was much more adventurous than ours.

Then we painted it with light grey primer, and then did 2 coats of top coat. This is the only photo I can find of it finished and it's a rubbish photo from the accident scene.

It really depends on how smart your box is because if it's old like ours then anything looks better than just leaving it

Not quite the same I know but I totally restored a trailer some years ago. I used proper car paint & primer but I applied it with one of those small gloss rollers. The finish was very good & peole thought I'd sprayed the trailer. I would recommend to use this method on an old lady that you don't want to spend £1500 for a spray job on. Total new look for a couple of hundred ponuds?

oo - so it's not at totally stupid thought then? Was laughing at myself for even contemplating it!

OH thinks I am crazy.

Tis an old ford cargo - F reg - doesn't look too bad but rusty in places - deffo not worth spending £1000 on but £200, yes!

Ask around, I managed to find someone via my lorry mechanic who did a full respray on mine for £600

Looked fab afterwards! And was well worth it as I had added a locker etc to the skirts so wanted it tidied up

We added skirts to our lorry and ended up respraying half the box. We took the living door down to an auto paint place so that they could match the paint. My OH did it, but we did have an air compressor so it was properly spray painted. You couldn't tell the bits we had done compared to the original. It would be a bit easier if you aren't doing only part of it as you wouldn't need to get it matched.

The previous owner of the Green Goddess repsrayed it themelves. Not too bad a job, except for where they did not mask the windscreen and driver's window properly. Also, they did not open the doors, so the sills are still maroon.
