Has anyone ever bent/widened a gullet plate?

My mare is between sizes, wide is too narrow & xw is too wide causing pressure points on her trapezius which she is not liking at all! I've tried a front riser which was good in changing the balance and stopping it lifting slightly off her back but there is still too much pressure on her trapezius.
I was wondering if there was any way I could widen my wide gullet plate to make it fit her tracing exactly (or make the xw narrower, but she is still filling out so I'd rather have that one in case I need it in the next few months). I've heard of fitters doing this, do they have machines for it or is there any way I can try at home without weakening the metal (or breaking something

).
Otherwise I'll just ask my fitter, she is coming out soon anyway but I'm impatient!

This is not something that I would want to do. Just because a saddle comes with gullet plates does not mean that it will fit every horse, and it sounds to me that this saddle is not 100% suitable for your mare.

The saddle doesn't fit. I would be looking for a new saddle. I cant see how bending a gullet plate will make it fit properly?

I agree with the others and I would also be looking for a new saddle. A wide or an extra wide in a different brand or model could be the perfect fit. I would keep the current one though if you think it might be of use later. You can sell it at any point but it feels awful to have to go out and replace something you sold a few months back because you do need it after all. Have done that a few times and always think twice about selling now.
