has anyone ever frozen semen?

im seriously considering neutering my boy , who is now 7. We kept him entire with the intention, after several years planning with bloodlines, of mating him to one of m bitches. Hip scores and health tests were done - and I mean tests not checks, as in DNA tested Anyway, long story short it didnt work out and I was gutted. Thank goodness the bitch didnt take first time as a few months later we discovered after having a BAER test done , that she was deaf ! Hers was the line I really wanted to use and although I have 2 other fab young bitches, neither are suitable for him.

So, he is such a fabulous boy Im pondering on having some semen stored? You never know in years to come I might have another bitch who would suit. I know this is possible but I wondered if anyone here has had this done and how cost prohibitive it might be?

My mum has some in storage from one of her boys, you can't use it until he's carked it though - in this country any way. She had it done at the same time that some was taken and exported to be used on a bitch in the States. Can find out more if you like?

Keith Shay at Fit and Fertile is the man to contact. They collect and store seaman. He will test for quality before freezing. Please do consider that the Kennel Club will not allow the progany of AI to be registered unless the sire is deceased and sired at least one litter naturally.

thanks for the info both, will do some googling. i didnt know that about the kc , that said any pups will be eligible for kc reg but i dont really care if they arent, it's the ISDS Im more concerned with but will speak to them, cheers
