Has anyone ever had a dressage lesson with Pammy Hutton?

I have always wanted to have a lesson with Pammy Hutton. However, being so expensive and with Talland being quite a drive away I haven't yet taken the plunge.

Has anyone got any experiences good or bad?

I have had two lessons with her, i thought she was really good! She said such simple things that i was doing incorrectly (things neither i nor my older trainer had picked up on) and these little changes/exercises made a huge difference to me and the way my horse went in just two lessons. Like you it was a trek so i had one in the late afternoon, stabled over and had one the next morning. I will be going back down again when i can afford it.

I have also had 2 lessons with her. Found her very good both times. Was lucky as she comes to Osbaldeston for the Northern Dressage Group which is just down the road from me. Might be worth asking if she will be teaching anywhere near you.:)

She's fantastic, I've had a couple over the years with her and each time the experience has been invaluable. My first lesson was now almost 2 years ago and I still use the exercises and methods that she told me about, they were such a help (and still are) to my schooling and my horse's general way of going. Can't recommend her enough really, definitely worth paying a bit extra for.

Livery overnight is £25 I believe, but you may want to look that up. I live 5 minutes away so have never needed their livery services but I believe that's what a friend paid.

Where are you based as she used to do Regular clinics all over the country?

You really must do it. Some of my friends have had lessons with her and have come back raving about her. I have to be honest I really wanted to have a go myself, back in the days when I was doing dressage. I rang Talland and spoke to what I can only describe as a snotty c*w. Told me that Mrs Hutton charged £65 an hour (I think), what level was I riding at? I said prelim/novice and she practically snorted at me and said 'Mrs Hutton would not be interested in teaching you unless you are at least at Advanced Medium. I think you willl need to book with one of the AIs'. I put the phone down.

The laugh is that my old instructor was actually quite good friends with her as she had worked at Talland and had done some of her BHS stuff there. She spoke to Pammy a day or so later who exploded that one of her staff would talk to a potential customer like that. Apparently my money was as good as anyone else's money. Have to admit I lost the will to do it after that but I often wonder what it would have been like.

Enjoy yourself, have lots of pics taken and then come on here and tell us all about it.

I was lucky enough to train at Talland for a year (some time ago!) and had regular lessons with both Pammy and Mrs Sivewright - they're both very good at picking up the tiny issues which affect both the horse and rider's way of going - and which when corrected, make huge differences to the bigger picture

No flattery and very straight talking - don't go if you can't take honesty! - but seriously worth it!

When you do get a compliment, it really means something - rather than the stream of "that's good"s you get from other trainers.

If I was still competing, I would still be going :) :)

Until recently I have had fairly regular lessons with Pammy Hutton, and find her such an incredible wealth of knowledge, and she has helped me incredibly with the past three horses that I have had, from experienced novice event schoolmaster, to nutty late starting 8yo to a 4yo that I had recently. When I sign up for her clinics, it definitely says at the top of her sheet that she teaches ALL abilities, and will help solve any problems/difficulties that you have. One of my closest friends has been going to her for years.

I also had weekly riding lessons on my own horse in another arrangement, (to do with livery - don't ask!) but I would learn more in a 30minutes semi private from Pammy than from 12 of the other lessons. Would highly recommend.

Thank you all for the replies. I will definitely be booking a lesson! :-)

Cruzing - I am not too far away from, osbaldeston. When is the next clinic?! I'd love to come along. Failing that, I'll head down to Talland. :-)
