Now I don’t mean chopping up bits of meat!

But I saw and advert for home made dog treats! As in cookies, biscuits & granola!

I thought it would be a good idea to make my own! At least I would know exactly what is in them - no additives or preservatives!

So has anyone got any recipes?

BTW I’m not massive on treating dogs (or horses for that matter) but it would be nice to have something to go in his kong and for training.

Not quite what your looking for but for a training aid that works, try small pieces of pig liver on a baking tray and dried in the oven rather than cooked so that they go rock hard. My naughty Dobe would do anything for them.

I may have to try the peanut butter cookies as Sprocket lobe peanut butter!
I make liver treats (baked pigs liver with garlic sprinkled on top). Also make liver cake, tuna cake and pork scratchings.

I use this recipe, have made with both liver and tuna and they go mad for it!
LIVER CAKE

1 large cup wholemeal flour
1 large cup bran flakes
1 large cup rolled oats
3 large or 4 medium eggs
1 or 2 grated carrots
1/2lb liquidised liver (ox liver is the cheapest)
2 cloves of garlic crushed or chopped very small
1/4pt of milk or more if necessary to make a soft mixture

Mix dry ingredients; add beaten eggs with milk and liquidised liver and garlic
Add more milk if necessary to make a fairly soft mixture. Put into greased Swiss roll tin or something similar. Cook for 25-30 minutes at 200C.
Cut into small pieces when cool – Can be frozen

If liver is not your favourite choice you can substitute it with either kipper or tuna.

I made liver cake once, but only had self raising flour. It came out of the microwave like an enormous muffin! When I sliced it, it looked like a really delicious, posh bread. Except that it was full of liver......:D

I made liver cake treats once but it stunk the house out, when my husband came home from work he said ''can't you buy these?'' so i looked around and found a company who makes all sorts of training treats. I collect mine and my dogs love them. So if anyones interested look here.

Yes I make mine all the time, so much more healthy than the commercially bought ones, I make these
