Just wondering , as I have had an idea , and wanted to know how or where i can register it as my idea, patent it or whatever , before I suggest it to any companies etc .

Thanks

If you type in patents into a search engine a lot of companys will come up, i also have a few ideas i would like to market but have been put of by the cost of what is involved.

Definitely not trying to put you off but we looked into it for an idea we had but in the end came to the
conclusion that even if we patented it we wouldn't have the money to defend the patent if some big
company nicked the idea. I mean would you take on a huge chinese
conglomorate when they would probably change one tiny feature anyway to get
around it?

I had a design for a rug and was also put off by the price,

I went to a chinese company for them to make this item for me, which they did, I then listed my items on my website and ebay to sell and then the company ripped me off and sold this item as their own. Now this item is selling on ebay for a rediculous price -- for less than what I paid for the items resulting in me having to drop my prices and be out of pocket for thousands of pounds.

I have been involved with patent claims and agree Oldmare that unless you are prepared to have an army of lawyers all around the world to police this and enforce it, it isn't worth it. I have also been on the other side and broken/bypassed others' claims before and it was very easy to do.

Either exploit it yourself, or licence it to an existing encumbent in the market. Either way, make your money from being 1st in the market rather than relying on the lawyers.

Thanks guys , i will look into and see what i can do , If it ever takes off or goes anywhere , i will let you guys know if im going to be a squillionaire !!! and you may all use and or love my idea !!! xxxxx

Go directly to The Patent Office - Google to find same.
Do NOT mention what you have up your sleeve to ANYONE in the meantime.
Sorry for "shouting".

Unfortunately I think you will find that anything and everything gets copied in the horsey world (probably everywhere else as well). It can be very cut throat and if you are a bit naive or new to it all (describing self here!) it can be very upsetting.

When it goes well it is fun though!
