I havent seen one, no. But I am reading an excellent book by Jane Savoie called "That Winning Feeling" which I am finding very helpful indeed. I also read "A Sport Psychology Handbook for Riders" so I suppose I can say I am quite keen on the whole approach!

excellent thanks a million for those. another one you may be interested in is Pure Sport: Practical Sport Psychology

Might have a little look on Amazon in a minute for that one! The Jane Savoie one I am finding very helpful now that I have started competing - wheras the other book I read was more about general riding nerves. Are you looking into TFT as well? I know lots of people on the forum have used Jo Cooper for that one.

If its not too nosey - what did you go and talk to the psychologist about? And how many sessions did you do? Quite intrigued about how effective it is because like I say the book I am reading at the moment (mainly about pyscho cybernetics) is brilliant.

I went of a group course. My friend organised the guy who does the Dutch Team (Anky etc).

Unfortunately she only organised the first session so I haven't done the full course.

He went over goal setting and why you ride and what you worry about in the arena etc. He also discussed breathing exercise to help calm you down and also some for those who were too laid back. you could feel even stood up how these exercises would help you to deepen your seat and move with the horse.

The reason I went was to do with my brother, he rowed for Cambridge Uni andthey had the whole back up team and he had suggested it as it helped him. I thought that everybody had nerves and if it would help me to control them then so much the better.

I was actually given the number of someone local to me who does a similar thing with RAF pilots and have been thinking about arranging to do the whole course.

I found that he teacher does not have to be horsey as nerves are something everybody suffers from not just the horse.

At the end of the day I have the physio, chiro, massage etc for the horse and I thought it was time that I looked to myself to see which of my issues I could help to eliminate.

Hope that makes sense

Funnily enough thats why I have got into reading the books as well. Like you say I have spent so long focusing on making my horse perfect I thought it was about time I sorted out all the issues sat on top

What does the front cover look like of the one you are reading?!

There seem to be 2 titles of that winng feeling but different books, which is the best!?

Two other interesting authors are Dr. Robert Schinke - The Focused Rider and The Thinking Rider - who rode at 4* level before becoming an academic and trainer, and April Clay - http://www.bodymindmotion.com/ - who has written some "horse specific" books and does a regular column for Practical Horseman in the US.

My friend is doing her accreditation to be a fully fledged sports psych (she's training with Jennie Killilea (sp?) who was featured in H&H a few weeks back - can't remember what the feature was called but it went on for weeks??)
Anyway, my friend has helped me no end, I've gone from a neurotic eventer /competitor to being far more confident in my and my horses ability

..........I could go on all day, its been a great help
