just a thought really ! i know it would probably flap a bit but so have the so called indoor schools that i have ridden in ! just thought it would be cheaper .... shouldnt need planning ! and you can take it with you if you move ! probably silly idea but wondered what everyone else thought ?:)

Slightly different but at my old yard there was a small marquee for lunging .... The flapping they get used to very quickly, but it needs to be very solidly grounded or it will fly off!

wow ! its just that i went to a "do" in a massive marquee last night and i was looking around thinking you could ride in this its big enough for a full jumping course ... its warm , sheltered from wind and rain , didnt rattle like the old indoor schools with their bits of fixings tacked on ! could it catch on ? i wonder .... need to make some money !!:p

yes all the time, there is a company that makes indoors that look like giant poly tunnels, also i thought about making a lunging circle by putting down sand when its very dry then covering with narrow tarpaulin, that plastic stuff and fixing it down with plastic fence posts and just uncovering it to lunge , i would make it about a metre wide, just a circle, but luckily i can use next doors riding surface, so have'nt yet treid to do it.
i am sure the wind is a major factor in any improvised manege, how to anchor the structure to ground.

The indoor warm-up at Arena UK is a bit like a marquee - a bit more solid. It flaps and rattles like mad in the wind and rain but I have never seen horses or ponies in there having a 'do' because of the flapping. Certainly my daughter's jumping pony was never bothered.

ashgrove theyre very posh and proper ! i was more thinking the tent type marquee anchored securely to ground !:D specially for the poorer horse rider with very rich dreams !

Yeah as boxers said Arena UK's warm up area is technically a marquee. Harrogate Equestrian Centre have apparently also done the same to what used to just be their outdoor warm up. It is now covered with a marquee and, from looking at my friend's pics there they have boarded up the sides so you wouldn't then get the flapping.

I guess it gets round planning regs and isn't a bad idea as is only a 'temporary structure' I guess. I expect we will see more people doing it.
