Has anyone ever used Neo Ice bandages....

i need something that i can put on my boysd legs as soon as i come off xc, but as i have a trailer i do not have access to a fridge or freezer.

Thanks!

I used them a few times, and really didnt thnk they were that good, and quiet expensive too.
I use picnic ice flexi blocks, freeze them, then take them to event in cool bag, then bandage on with crepe bandages, works well

Rubbish - not cold enough and a pain to deal with. Also costs to keep topping up.

Aerborn cool boots. Simple and easy to use. They really work. They can also be frozen.

You could checkout the new Recoverice Equine wraps: http://www.catch22products.co.uk/Recoverice-Equine-horse-bandages.htm
They are really good quality compression bandages with guidelines printed on to help you put them on.
They work by evaporation, chilling down to a temperature where you can leave them on until they dry - over an hour - to reduce any inflammation or swelling.
They are 3m long, but you can cut them to the right length & the put the rest in a sealed plastic sandwich bag to use again. They have arnica in too!

(Ignore what is says on the website about alternating cold & heat for acute injuries as my horse physio says that's old school now & the latest research says that as long as you apply cold at about 8 degrees centigrade, which the Recoverice Equine wraps do, it is better to cool for extended periods of time in order to speed up recovery time)

Hope this helps- good luck!

Premier equine have made the equivalent of aerborn boots but substantially cheaper! I fill up a bucket of water and stick ice blocks from my cool box in. I pop the boots in about an hour before use and they are nice and cold. There is a 10% Facebook discount on at the mo too!!

I have used neo ice bandages too, I didn't get on with them, I just didn't think they worked very well. I have also had the gel things that you put in a bucket of water from premier equine but I swear my horses legs were hotter when I took them off than when I put them on. I phoned premier equine because I thought I had a dodgy batch but she said that they will be hot as the gel pads draw the heat into them, but my horses legs were roasting! I wasn't convinced and I threw them away. Now I freeze gel packs and take in a cool box and put them on. And when I get home I ice tight over night, no bandage or paper though, just clay.

I won a set of neo ice bandages earlier this year. They are ok but once I have used them up (came with a stack of refill pouches) I probably won't buy more. I have puffa heatbeetas, which are an oldskool version of the aerborn ones and I prefer them. Was wondering about the premier equine ones actually as I could do with a new set.

I use my premier equine ones for 20mins intensive cooling, then take them off and put gel on. I can imagine they would get warm for any longer than that though. They are designed to draw the heat out of the legs so they have done their job if they are warm when removed!
