... left a well paid steady job, taken a huge paycut to work with our beloved four legged creatures?
Did you ever regret it? Was it the best thing you ever did? Would you do it again?

Ta!!

A friend of mine gave up a well paid sales job with a very prestigious car manufacturer to work with horses in stables based just off the beach- last I heard she absolutely loved it and has no regrets

Just chiming in on this - YES, I have - I left a job in an international bank to be a self employed dog groomer. No regrets. Happy happy!

Nice one! My situation is leaving bean counting for grooms job in a yard i love. Am nervous about some of the implication si might have, finances will be tight but i only have myself to look after but still how do you know youre not doing something silly??

You don't really ever know for sure til you try. I was lucky that my husband has been really supportive - however, I had to literally go without salary for months as I was starting up a new job. Finances might get tight for you, but you'll find that you will find legitimate ways to give up things and do things less expensively. For me it was giving up getting my hair done as often as I used to, manicures - gone. Clothes shopping sprees - gone. New car? No way. Nights out - much less often. But it never really mattered cos I am doing something every day that I love. How much does money and all their trappings interest you? Can you go back to the career that you had before (even if not at the same firm). If you've been bean counting, then you will know better than anyone how to work your budget. If you've done the sums and they don't come out all red, then I'd go for it!

My happiness is much more important than money and at the minute the money i do have just gets wasted on silly things so like you describe id much rather do something I love each day than have cash in my pocket! If i stayed in bean counting id be leaving this firm as swiftly as possible anyway as its ruddy miserable but I think while im still young its a good time to take this opportunity and see if this is what i want to do. Most friends are supportive just concerned Id struggle but hey lifes hard isnt it?!
Thanks for your advice!

Yes me! I had a high paid sales job, and previous to those high paid telemarketing jobs!

Now I work as a freelance groom, and its so much better.

I'm an incredible amount short of what I used to earn, but I've made adjustments, my horses are no longer on a livery yard... The weekends away went, the shopping sprees... Oh and the handbags... Weeps... I had a huge obsession with pricey handbags!

But I don't think I could ever do it again... I was good, but think I'm totally burnt out, I now can't deal with pressure very well. Its noticeable.

But I'm so happy now, could prob take on some more work, but we are ok.

My OH says I'm a lot less stressy! Best move I could have made!

Plus I get 2 spend a bit more time with my daughter too! X x

You're post is really nice to read Mistral_shining im happy to give up the shiny things for a better quality of life, just hope its the right choice and im not rushing into anyhing. I cant go freelance as am in London and no experience but i think this would be a good start!
Thanks!

i gave up a well paid secure job as payroll administator for other reasons, i enjoyed the money as i spent most of it on my horses...they always get what they want anyway no matter how much i'm earning

I am currently working at a riding school it's not the ideal job with horses that i am looking for, so i'm on the prowl for another job where i can also live at and hopefully take my mare with me.

I enjoy working with horses very much and lucky i have such a thing to fall back on really havent had new clothes or my hair done etc for ages so dont really miss it.
