Just wondering what people think of this feed as I am considering feeding it to my daughters 12.2hh chubby pony this winter.

He is rode 3/4 times a week and does Pony Club activities.

I would like him to drop a bit of weight over Winter. He is not grossly over weight, just a bit on the chubby side but think best to get this off him before the Spring starts next year otherwise it could cause trouble!

Im thinking this might be good to put him on this as its low calorie and balanced but do you think it will help me to get a bit of weight off him? Or can you recommend something else.

How about fast fibre or L mix, both fab feeds and add a vit/min supplement. I won't use healthy hoofs just because it contains molasses and I just won't feed molasses to any of mine

Healthy Hoofs does not have enough mins and vits in it if you feed a normal amount. I find Dengie non molasses chaff is very palatable, feed damp, and add vits and mins or add Fast Fibre [soaked] cheap and non molassed.
I agree with steady loss of weight, you can measure the girth to monitor this.

There's so many feeds for sale it makes it hard to choose what is best to get!

I'm a lover of Sugarbeet (24 hours soaked) and chaff and nuts with Clop vits, but now just having a childs pony who is a good doer its thrown me :D! I'm used to feeding horses up!! lol :).

I will keep looking before I decide but it does help listening to what others use and what they think of the different types out there.

Thanks everyone

You can get non molassed s b pulp, flakes not nuts, this is a fibre source very lo in sugar.
I think Fast Fibre is the best thing as it provides mins and vits, fibre and no sugars.
Make sure any chaff is non molassed [Dengie], you may not need any chaff with FF [one small dry petscoop per feed, soaked for 1 minute]
A small cup of micronised linseed meal once the weight is correct, helps coat, hooves, skin and joints.

I agree with Miss L Toe it doesn't have enough vitamins, had to get a supplement, i've tried it for the last month and no be honest im not liking it my horses coat has become dull, think im going to go back to happy hoof.

I feed it but to my big horse - the lami pony doesnt get it as it has molasses in it and also is a bit higher energy than is ideal for her. She gets soaked hay/oat straw and unmolassed chaff plus vits/mins and magnesium oxide.

I would say Healthy Hooves and Happy Hoof are a good all round feed but not the best for obese/lamis who are better off with the diet above, Fast Fibre (and if they ever need extra weight), micronised linseed (which is similar nutrition to grass but without the high sugars)
