Hi. I need to buy a saddle for my 4 year old and I thought about one of these. My mare is a Haflinger and he is her son (father unknown!). Her saddle is a good fit on him so I thought if I got one of these GFS saddles and it didn't fit him then it would probably fit her. They are both like barrels and although he is a wee bit narrower than her at the moment I think he has inherited her shape! It says on the ad 'a saddle for life' so I thought this one might be a good idea because you can change the gullets.

Also do you think it is wise to buy from a catalogue or get it fitted?

I think it would be wise to get it fitted!

My old arab mare had a GFS Haflinger and it was comfortable but I hated it!
No matter how hard I tried my leg position kept coming forwards, my instructor shouted at me so many times until we realized it was the saddle not me!

Always always always get it fitted. Just because it is called haflinger does not mean it will fit a haflinger (not all that is).
They are reasonably made saddles, so well worth a try.
