Took Henry for a superlong all day hike in the Peak District yesterday with the parents - will post pics when I get home and can get them off my phone (think they are all a bit blurry though

)!

Henry was so fantastically behaved, top recall, little pulling on the lead, well behaved when we stopped in some shops at lunchtime, gentle with some teeny kids we met in the shops - fab.

EXCEPT - part of our walk went along the Derwent River (which is beautiful if anyone fancies it!). The bank sloped steeply down to the river, then there was about a foot drop to the water - not much, but too high for a silly spangle to climb out. Normally Henry looks to see if her can get out before leaping in so I let him off the lead. What do we hear then? Yep, splash! He was having a lovely swim but then he decided to get out and was sort of hanging off the bank by his front paws looking pathetic

Step daddy had to hold one end of the lead, I held the other end and skidded down the bank and hauled him out

And then got shook all over

If I'd been on my own I'd have had to tie the lead to a damn tree

Where abouts did you go?

Tinkerdog has gone head first into the Derwent before. Literally, vertical and sank like a stone

We started off at Thornhill, walked along the river to the Lady Bower dam, then along the rod into Bamford, up into the hills to the water treatment plant, down into Hathersage, then back along the Derwent to the car. It took ages but it was great - loads of sheepies though so Henry was on the lead for a lot of it.

Normally I can stop Henry from going in but it was just too tempting this time - it was a quiet bit of the river though so he swam fine but just couldn't get out!

My GSD had obviously been distracted by a butterfly and wandered out of line when brains were being handed out because he is dimmer than a dodgy lightbulb. If he is in a field and the gate is shut he'll just sit there howling until you open it for him, never mind that he shimmied under the gate to get in there in the first place. We really should have named him Tim.

Yes my dog Buster, he is a yr old golden lab and I bred him, he actually was born not breathing & we gave him the kiss of life and brought him back, well thats my excuse for him being so thick brain damage. I have 3 dogs and he is extremely thick, and I can only tell you a few things that can give him 1st prize for being the thickest dog. If I throw a ball for my other 2 dogs he just runs up and down with them & has no idea what for, my other 2 dogs are amazing swimmers, he jumps into water and then I have to wade in to save him from drowning, he runs into dog fights all excited and doesnt understand dog language, has a lot of traits of an autistic child. He is odd, but is our special needs dog.
