Has anyone got any pictures of the mane 'tag' plaits?

I do realise that most people would take them out as soon as they saw them but I'm sure someone must have taken pictures - I would like to see them as the ponies that live up on the hill at our place always have plait like tangles in their manes - these are caused by the wind and the fact that the manes aren't brushed regularly so have knots in.

Apparently, the pic in temsiks post is "supoosed" to be a "tag"...looks exactly like my lots manes out the back field TBH..

Ooops, totally missed that one. I've had a look now and that is just like the literally hundreds I have seen before - the pony gets a knot at the bottom - the wind whips it up and inside itself - you end up with one of those. I took one out of the mane of the FellxDales youngster up on the hill the other week. They are annoying difficult to get out - I suppose that's punishment for not brushing very often!

My section A gets tangles/knots and they are so hard to get out.I know for a fact that these are due to wind/weather and NOT tags. 1 the pony wont let you near her, unless its on her terms and is not people friendly.
I think all this plait stuff is getting out of hand now.

Also, not sure about anyone else, but I find that if I just put a plait in my horses' manes myself it tends to fall out quite quickly - it's not so easy to do with your hands what the wind can do in a few seconds! If the plait was actually tied up with something these claims would be much more credible. Security should be paramount in the first place and you should be doing everything to keep your property safe whether they have been tagged or not.

I would also like to see pictures of the markings on the roads and gateways. Someone used to come and put piles of stuff in our gateway at this time of year - I think it was the council with grit so we didn't have an accident.

Winkyfield that's exactly what I ponted out a week or so ago, I was musing along the lines of 'strong gales forecast, wonder how many more people will report plaits?'. I rest my case.

Also, as someone else said, how are thieves going to actually see the plait, assuming it's going to be a dark field, probably windy, very possibly raining, spooky disturbed ponies tearing about in the mud etc etc. Any thieves reading the recent threads must be falling over laughing, if they are going to steal a horse why bother to plait it? They spot it, suss out when there's nobody about and nick it, simple as that.

How spiteful. Ponder2009 has genuine concerns, just because you don't think they are relevant, there is no need for the sarcy comments!

not being spiteful but being involved in passing round info for horse security issues etc, it gets a bit wearing when there is no mass theft going on that people go into panic mode. By all means be extra vigilant but why not be vigilant all the time? If a thief wants your horse they generally just take it.....the plaits in the mane marker are quite "old school", I would be more worried about tampered fencing and markers such as bags tied to fences etc.

So instead of posting yet ANOTHER thread about these so called 'plaits' why not post about making sure your horse is chipped or freezemarked instead? Or that your gates are well padlocked and your fencing is secure. Go from the security angle - people might be less 'sarcy' (sic) then.....

Amazing how this is going around and around. My welsh pony has tangles all the time and hers are from the wind!!!
If a thief wants your horse, they would just grab it and go,theyre not going to warn you by plaits or any other so called tags!!!
As long as you have the right security you should be fine!!!!
