Has anyone got mud yet?

Its been a very wet autumn so far where I am and we already have poached gateways and edges of fields, you can feel your boots squelching as you walk across the fields! Is anyone else starting to sink in the mud yet? Hoping its going to turn cold and dry soon or by Xmas its going to feel like a very long winter. I HATE MUD!
 
I seem to have a continuous stream running across our main field, the water runs from the top of the hill across our field before finding its way down hill. So field has standing water and gateway's and animal tracks are surcoming to mud. I am on well drained sand on top of moors, so for those in valley it must be horrible.

My two have nice thick feathers on their legs, which give them protection but I am feeding afternoon hay inside on shavings as that seems the only way to dry the mud off a bit.

Think winter is arriving it is hailing/sleety rain here at present.
 
No mud in the paddocks yet or around gateways. But all horses come in every night and none hang around the gates as the grass is still good and they wander around stuffing themselves during the day. We are on clay.
 
I am not too bad but it wont take much more before the mud starts. I stable my lad at night to let his legs dry off and get him off the grass and I think this helps the land survive better.
 
still got grass and more grazing to open up, but it is getting very muddy :( come in with it splattered up legs and tummy. my 2 are now coming in every night, and my friends 2, but other ladies 6 are out 24-7 so churn up the field a lot :(
 
We are on clay so the tracks and especially the gateways turn into thick and sticky gloop with puddles so deep they cover the feet of your boots. My horse keeps giving me the 'why are you making me walk through this look?' as we both slide around. Keeping a sharp look out for mud fever and stockpiling the barrier cream. Why did I get a horse with 4 white stockings when there are so many dark horses with no white at all on their legs?
 
We are on clay but luckily have plenty of land for just 3 horses. A touch of mud by one of the gates...which has to be where they stand waiting to come in, isn't it :(
Plenty of grass still so this field should last until January until I have to rotate to the next one.
 
Lots of grass and had no mud till my boy decided to create his own mud bath as he prefers to roll in mud than on grass. "Sigh"
 
I think we are doing pretty well seeing it is getting toward the middle of November!!!! Our mud isn't to bad but last year YO put down stone/chipping paths so that's saving us from messy tracks ans gate ways!

However our fields do have a nicer layer of water on the top of them!
 
Oh yes. Heavy clay here too. Fields are saturated my 3 year old daughter was playing jumping in the puddles today - in my field, on a slope and no where near the bottom ! We put some heavy grass mesh down a few months ago in the gateways. If we hadn't the fence would have just gone. Pony is unshod 13.2 but is up on the little yard overnight as I only have 2 acres and it has to last all year. Grass seems pretty poor now, he isn't that interested in grazing unless is a new section ( still pretty fat and strip grazed ) and my alpacas are ion their hay - a sure sign of rubbish grass as they dont touch it all summer.
 
Well the gate to my yard is at the bottom of a hill. In a clay paddock. Because my big un is so impatient to come in he has been pacing the fence line all week and its so churned up now it actually looks like there's been a tractor ploughing.
 
Not too bad with us, only a liitle around the gateway.

We are very lucky as have a seperate 4 acre field for winter that is on a hill, so drains very well.

Take heart though as the forecast for next week is a lot drier, so will have a respite, if only for a while!
 
Bad here already but I have moved the ponies on to fresh ground and have just sold this years lambs which leave tomorrow and that should ease up the situation. Around the stables was bad (we dont have a stable yard) but someone gave me the most amazing stuff that we have rolled out and pegged down and that gives us a 4ft area beyond the overhang where we can walk with little mud
 
lol, clay here too. Watched my 3/y old jump a 5 bar gate out of a foot of mud either side this morning :rolleyes3:
 
Thick clay around the bank that's in the field and muddy around the gates and around the far side where they hang when the weather is bad(all the time I'm on exmoor..) today the puddles have arrived too across the whole field and its sloped the ground can't hold any more water STOP RAINING!!!
 
I moved from a sandy area to clay. I hate mud!! If ever i move again i will be checking the soil type, sounds a bit extreme but its a bloody nightmare!
 
Dizzy in farm a) wet wet wet, but thankfully very little mud. Wills in farm b) (literally a stones throw from farm a) is boggy muddy and bliddy awful :(

I HATE mud with a passion!!!! ...... Roll on spring lol
