My horse had a McTimoney treatment done 2 weeks ago. She has had this type of treatment done before, but by a different person. During her treatment, the problem areas picked up were poll, area behind the saddle and tightness through left shoulder, and base of neck also on the left side. Since she had the treatment, I've only been able to work her a few times, but she's been horrible to ride. Both hacking and schooling. She is constantly fixed on the left rein, and really puts up a fight if I ask her to flex left and soften. She has also been extremely spooky, and on one hack she actually gave me the feeling she was going to bolt with me, (never done that before, had her for 10 years.) She just constantly feel like she's trying to either ignore or block me.
She has never been like this before after a treatment, but I don't know whether this is a result of new person having used a slightly different technique, and to be expected and will settle, or whether new person has actually made something worse.
Has anybody else had a similar reaction after a treatment?

My horse was almost PTS after treatment by a very well respected chiro. There is no way we could prove the cause, but day before treatment he was fine, and day after we couldn't touch him and became dangerous to handle. He was such a danger, he was due to be PTS.

Luckily he is fine now, but that is a long story in itself and a very odd one at that!

That's a difficult one. If I were you I would speak to McTimony and ask if they found anything different/did anything differently? And maybe speak to your vet as after all... horses don't just switch over night from a nice being to an evil one. It might be that they disturbed something underlying.
Sorry to be a bit negative. I hope that she is Ok :)

My horse has had the mc timoney very recently 2ce, 3rd time soon. he has been much better since and has even lost his "cold back" when i get on..
But they do advise to get the person out again to follow up the treatment?

I've had this before.

Chiro found certain problems and 'fixed' them (cutting long story short). Horse had 3 days walk only then back to normal work. As soon as back to normal work was unlevel and didn't want to jump - lots of schooling flexion exercises in walk did not ease stiffness.

Phoned Chiro, he came out the next day and reassessed. 'Fixing some problems had made others become obvious (horse had been previously compensating for these) and so was consequently struggling. Did more work on 'new' problem areas and again 3 days walk then into normal work.

Completely different horse - not stiff at all and no hints that anything had ever been wrong.

I would phone them, explain what you have found, they may find a revisit will help. Or ask the vet to see what they think? Or another practitioner if you were not happy with the last one?

Thank you for your replies.
I must admit, im not overly convinced about the women I used this time. Unfortunately, I've moved yards/house since her last treatment, and the women I used previously wouldn't travel that far, all of 8 miles outside her area. Corrie has arthritis of the high hock joint, so there is normaly some biggish compensatory issues related to this. The women used this time said that there was very little there to be concerned about, just the sort of things you would expect to find with an old cob. None of the normal problems. She also told me i could ride her the next day as she hadn't had to do much at all. Corrie has always had to have 1, if not 2 days off after. There has been a few other things that have made me wonder about the women used this time.
I am tempted now, to give Corrie another week, concentrating on her schooling a bit more, and if it still doesn't settle down, try and do everything possible to convince previous women to come out and see her. If in that time, she gets worse, then i will contact vet first.
