I just wondered if anyone has had a horse with a bruised thigh?

My slightly 'special' TB decided to have a wander around the yard (without my authorisation!) and ended up scooting into a breeze block wall about 3-4ft high hitting his offside hind thigh.

He was instantly lame on it (this was 3 weeks ago tomorrow that it happened) and was very sore for a week (box rested) i have then been walking him in hand and lunging at a walk (really large circle in a field so no sharp bend). He can trot lamely and the more he trots the less stiff he is but im only letting him do max 10 strides then walking a bit then trot again, he is having small amounts of turnout (this is his usual routine whether injured or not) at the minute he's only having max 1 hour as he will only eat/walk for this long before he starts to run around like a maniac and has to be brought in (he generally is not a settled horse in the field and has short periods of turnout for this reason, no judgement please, its the way he is and works best for him!).

Im assuming the impact has caused pretty severe trauma to the area and i dont want to over do anything. His lameness now is almost a minor drag, like the muscle hurts to lift his leg up, i read somewhere this muscle is the one that lifts the leg so this would explain the slight drag,

Has anyone had anything similar happen and how long was the recovery time? I've been walking him over poles tonight to get him to lift the leg more which definitely seemed to loosen the trot up (doesnt look lame just really stiff)

Has he been seen by a Vet? My girl got a kick on the thigh, and was still slightly lame after 4 weeks ( had been seen when it happend and several time after). Xrays showed a fractured tibia!

6 months box rest followed.

Same here. Horse kicked in field. Very lame when first happened then only slightly lame, no heat no swelling. After 2 weeks had x rays and then a bone scan at Newmarket. Discovered a spiral fracture of Tibia. 7 weeks in Newmarket and another 5 months of Box Rest with in hand walking.
