I was wondering if anyone has had a horsebox built from scratch? Im thinking of upgrading my box at some point and i want a compact 2 horse lorry, herringbone. I would happily fit the living myself as did that with my present one so would just need the box made and the horse area finished.
Just wondering what sort of price this would be to have the basic work done.

Just having one built now. I supplied the base vehicle (ford transit 7t) and it's being fitted for two horses or three ponies herring bone.
Basic build cost exc fitting the living was about £18k plus vat. We're adding a few bits and getting the builders to panel out the living (from past experience that's the hardest thing to do well).

I had mine built by Tristar - not local at all to me but have a very good reputation and came in cheapest on the quotes when I was looking - they also stuck to their quote and didn't go a penny over despite a few minor changes (requested by me). They are very aware of legal weight and also had a quicker turnaround than most of the others I contacted. Build quality is great, after sales care is super (despite being the other side of the country!) really friendly and helpful to deal with. My lorry is much admired and I have had a few people tell me what a good build it is (and will hopefully last me a lifetime).

Their pictures on the website aren't a true reflection of what they actually build (and much of what they build is to customer specification and they are really flexible). On the twittereventing facebook page someone posted some pics of their build which is a smooth sided, full luxury living (including bed over the shower for the groom, heating, etc and massive storage space that runs under the living the entire width of the lorry, looked amazing). For me they were worth the trip http://www.tristarhorseboxes.co.uk/

I had my two horse 7t box built by Peper Harow Horseboxes in Surrey. I have a two horse side load with decent living but no toilet/bathroom. They do a similar layout with rear load/herringbone so worth a look. My build inc living was just over £20k.
