my horse has had a session of shockwave therapy on his back, if this does not see any improvement he will be bone scanned. if it shows some improvement we will continue with the course. he also has coffin joint injuries on both front legs (these are being treated) and we have not even addressed his hinds yet. is shockwave very successful and is it effective long or short term. thanks

I didn't have a huge amount of luck with it, but I suspect that's more the extent of the injury to my horse rather than any indication of the effectiveness of the treatment. :) Mine had 3 sessions done to both hind suspensories and was reassessed 6wks later and wasn't really any better. We would have liked to have medicated the suspensories too but for a variety of reasons we couldn't so he only had SW. He also has issues with both front coffin joints which were medicated and didn't show any improvement. But really I think he is just that special. :(

There is another person at my yard though whose horse seems to be doing very well after a course. I guess like most things it will just depend on the specifics of the injury you are looking at. I wonder though about how often you see improvement with just one treatment? I don't know that you won't I guess I'd just always thought of it as a multi-treatment therapy. Hopefully you see some improvement!

Good luck!

I didn't find Ir helpful if anything just made him really sore even rigging up , my Showjumper tore all his ligaments in his back , underwent intensive course of physio along with rest and then controlled exercise plan now back in full work and eventing wouldn't put him through shock wave therapy again x
