It's died down here so going to try and do something in the school a bit later, would lunge but think that would be even more dangerous with the wind pulling at the lunge line!!
It's not too bad here (at the moment) and I've got a new saddle to try out, so I'll be going in the school later this evening. Thankfully I've got a plodder, so I'm hoping the wind might help with our forward momentum.
We have managed to ride the beasts in the winds earlier this week but I think even I might give it a miss tonight if it stays like this - will still lunge them though....
nope not even gonna bother trying to ride good job we went on a nice quiet hack yesterday in the dark! He was a little saint not what i was expecting! We have not school at the mo so that all ill be doing before i go away in 6 days to canary island i just wish i could take sid with me! Il take him in my suitcase! Opppps might be a big heavy lol!!
Blimey! My 3 havent even gone out in the field today!! - too many trees around and freddie the nut would simply just injure himself, he hates even a breeze!!
Im on my way to do evening stint at yard after school pick up and dropping allergic one at rainbows... I hope the stables are still standing !! havent given riding a thought
I took all my tack up to the yard with me as I do tend to try and get on regardless of the weather but it became clear pretty fast that it was boarding on been downright dangerous
In the end i opted to lunge as our lunging arena is a bit more sheltered and Im so so glad I didnt get on. My horse was a complete darling but we were both being blown around really bad!
The rain has eased here now (Derbyshire) but the wind is still pretty bad and the strength of the gusts are quite scarey!
He's now tucked back up in bed munching his haylage.
I do hope this doesnt continue into tomorrow though
Oh dear...you will all shout at me...I have just got back in from riding I took him for a quick half hour hack around the block because otherwise he will never get ridden because these winds are set to stay. However...I did have a huge big flourescent jack on and flourescent boots on horse and a bright pink hat and made sure I kept looking for traffic and kept my wits about me. We got round in one piece safe and sound
I rode this morning. It's quite open so nothing blowing about and wind wasn't too string (didn't feel I was gonna be blown off anyway!). It wasn't the most productive session ever but did her good to have to behave in that weather, she takes the mickey out of her owners in the slightest bit of bad weather!
Sadly no!!!! We are about the highest point in Nottingham, apparently there is nothing between Siberia and our yard - the wind howls and she plods!!!!!!!!!!!
This may be a daft question but I'm not from around here . . . does anyone use ear plugs/ear hats in the wind? I've found them to be extremely helpful for some horses who react badly to high wind as a temporary measure. (Out of curiosity, what are showing regs on stuffing ears? Here it depends on the discipline. I'm not actually in favour of it for competition horses but it is another tool in the bag if you can use it.)
Of course, there's always the "discretion is the better part of valour" approach, which I am fully in favour of!
I was going to ride in the indoor school but settled for loose schooling instead as school roof was making howling noises and door was rattling off its hinges. He has been ridden all week and had a lovely time today rolling, bucking and squealing at the noises to his heart's content.
Call me mad but I rode 3, the last being right on top of the Mendips in about the windiest place you can imagine!! Did wimp out of riding the tb coming back into work, think that would have been like commiting suicide
