Has anyone moved abroad but left their horse behind...?

I'm moving abroad for a few years this autumn but my horses will be remaining in the UK, at my expense. They are insured through Petplan at the moment but, obviously, I will no longer be resident in the UK so these policies won't be valid. Has anyone done anything similar and do you have any solutions? It's almost impossible to Google. Thanks.

I have had liveries move abroad, over 12 months in one case, they remain fully insured as long as you inform the company where they are being kept and give authority to act to someone you trust, ideally the YO so they can act quickly if required in an emergency, I had full authority to deal with insurance, vets, pts if that was in the best interests of the horse and anything else that may have come up, in reality there were very few issues but it was easy enough to set up.

Ok, that's interesting, thank you. Petplan say they won't insure to anyone not resident in the UK so I wonder if one of the other companies is more amenable? The yard owner has authority to act, as does a friend... I just want to make sure that they at least have 3rd party cover whilst I'm away and would prefer to pay for it myself rather than have to pay someone else!
