The equitation and coaching section, I am hoping to take it in october and was just wondering what the format is and what to expect. If I go for it it will be at Ingestre in staffs.
Thanks

Presumably you know about all the individual sections!

I haven't been through this exam myself, but have gone along with two colleagues who have taken it in the past.

It's a really long day so get someone to drive for you, especially on your way home if you are not stopping close by.

Check the cut off point for training at the venues, and pop along and have a lesson at any possibilities prior to deciding where you want to sit the exam. It's good for research, but helpful to get your name out into the BHS ether!

And definitely go to any I training sessions!

Good luck - it isn't a fun day but is well worth the effort when you pass!

thanks, I currently have training with an FBHS. I was just wondering what height they jumped both SJ and Xc and whether its a set course or an assessment of each horse.
from what I understand you assess a horse (ridden) as if for purchase on the flat and over fences, the same for xc. You lunge and have a selection of equipment, you teach one flat and one jump and give an assessement of the horses way of going in some one elses lesson ( both flat and jump) , theory incs flat, jump, careers ect.

Sounds about right. Jumping was Foxhunter height, so 1.20m as for XC, it was Hartpury I went to and you were given a horse to assess/improve over a series of fences. Decent novice size fences I think - but didn't get up close (wasn't supposed to be watching!).

Depends on the calibre of horses the venues has though - so may not be up to height. Lets face it, not many venues can provide horses for 8 or so candidates that can happily pop round 1.20m track!

Likewise for the flat horses - a lot of them are rather stiff by all accounts!
