Just curious. i seen a group of people with two horses, riding bareback and took turns while having a can of lager...i didnt know what to make of it?! dangerous or teens having a bit fun? horses didnt look miserable or anything, they were just standing with people on there backs. whats your opinion?

If they want to be that irresponsible, then I suppose it is their choice. Though I did think it was actually illegal to ride when drunk?

i thought it was, but there you go, thats some people for you. Although its probably safer than drink driving :) At least if they have had the horse a while it will know its way back to the yard :\

maybe they were just hot with the weather and decided to share a cold tin of lager. No harm there I wouldn't have thought. However, no i would never be drunk and ride, with or without a hat. So not fair on horse and drinking would make me more likely to land on me erse, so probably not the best idea:D

I'm sure it's illegal to be drunk in charge of a horse, specifically when on public highways. I know it is for bikes, you can't cycle drunk so I don't see why you'd be allowed to ride!

Oh they wernt sharing a can XD, it was like a mini house party, minus the house! phew i thought i was just being stuck up thinking it was silly doing it.

hha sorry for the confusion, what i meant is they took turns having goes on the horses, while they had a can in there hands, they all had a drink.

In the good old days gymkhanas used to have beer tents. In between classes on one of my rides, Gypsy, we used to nip off to the beer tent and get someone to buy us a rum and black. It came in a plastic glass and I used to drink most of it and Gypsy would take the cup between her teeth and tip her head right back to finish it up. She was also very partial to chocolate limes and used to go into the ring sucking on one.

Unless they were drunk and incapable on the highway I really can't see much of a problem with a couple of cans of lager between a group of people.. Perhaps it's just my old age and permissive nature.

I usually play polocrosse on a Sunday morning while still drunk from the night before (shhhhhhhhh...) but I always wear a hat, in fact I think I'm usually still wearing it from Saturday...... ;)

I used to drink and ride in my youth, but not hatless. We used to do pub rides every summer and would visit several along a carefully planned route. Those were the days! Couldn't do it now - I'd be bound to fall off sozzled.

Well i suppose if they fall off they'll have to put up with sore bums XD. As long as the horses are fine i dont care XD i sound evil. Im one of those people who couldnt give a rats arse about people dying in films. But as soon as an animal dies the tv is off!!

When we were in Spain the Spanish caballero in change of the horses was knocking back cans of San Miguel like they were Coca Cola and he was riding without a hat! I don't think the Spanish bother with headgear. He was a fantastic rider and his horse was stunning, he was showing off doing levades while we were out hacking.
I like a little tipple before a comp, doesn't do any harm.
However, my idea of HELL is having a flatwork lesson whilst hungover. Nightmare!
