I liked this idea also, until I found out it's not really do-able I think they may be some grey area if you are farming it or something, someone explained it to me but it was so complicated and covered in regulations it just sounded impossible tbh!
When we bought this place it had planning to convert two of the buildings to residential. We just assumed it would be okay to put a static caravan on it. In fact we lived in the caravan for 3 years before even starting to convert the barn. It was only when the planning officer visited that we were told we should have had planning permission for the caravan. So we then had to apply for it whilst living there. Thankfully it was granted, but only for a period of 6 months, after which the caravan had to be removed. I think that even where planning permission exists on the land, then extra PP must be applied for if you want to live on site in a caravan. I therefore think it is very unlikely that PP would be granted for a mobile home where no existing PP exists to build.
Apache Warlord, you are thinking of the 'live in 30 days in a year and must not have any mains connections ' - gas, electric, fresh or foul water.
OP, my neighbours have owned their land for around 20 years and put a nearly new mobile on there last Nov,having secretly put in a cess pit and also connecting to mains water. They had just started to clad it on a Friday when the council planning head honcho came out and put a stop to it immediately.
They had only started on the monday, all locals out at work during daytime so were hoping to have hidden it before weekend!
its currently still there tjo only part clad, they haven't put in for planning yet either, am watching this develop closely. .. our local council are very hot on these things, we evrn need permission for a garden shed or small log store....
Wouldn't it be marvellous if it was possible. I wouldn't mind living in a static caravan (with some heat and hot water) in a field with your horses around.
Friend had to fight twice to put one on her yard... they didn't look at it properly the second time - she was claiming as running yard as business/breeding she needed to be on site (is was an absolute no before that). It went up to city council who visited, said how good her road screening was and asked who on earth let them put up the caravan site a field away (this is in area which is caravan city for holidaymakers and included some permanent buildings for facilities. It did seem ridiculous that they could have 100 but she couldn't have one but they know that once you have lived there X years you will apply for something more permanent/are setting a precendent.
