Put it in here as thought more might see it.

So has anyone taken them etc? Or know anything about them?

I've got the syllabus & I know once you've passed levels 1-3 you can take a direct entry into BHS stage 3

Ta muchlies

OH I am such a numpty. I have been out of horses and having children for 8 years. Now my youngest is soooo allergic to him im bu***rd

Do they work like the BHS stages - even if you fail one element you can still pass? Or is it a literally pass or fail.

What are the examiners looking for? Is it a case of being text book or actually how you get on and ride whatever the horse does?

And what have people failed on?

I did the Riding Club ones, 1 and 2. The first one was extremely easy, just basic walk trot and canter, and very basic stable management - points of a horse, parts of a saddle etc.
The second one: riding - independent seat, small course of jumps, and the stable management included rules of feeding, feedstuffs, bandaging and such.
I am sure you would not have any trouble.
I don't know about the three, I seem to remember they said there was quite a jump in difficulty.

I'm exempt from level 1

- never thought I'd be exempt from anything in my life.

Level 3 - is jumping upto 3ft from what I've read of the syllabus. But you can now do it so you can do the exam bar the jumping part.

It's an overall pass or fail. Examiners should be looking for safe correct handling of horses & equipment. The equitation exams can be taken with or without jumping. Riding should be secure & effective, with a good knowledge of the aids & their correct application, although examiners should take in to account the level of schooling of the candidates horse.
The best way to pass them is to have some training from a BRC examiner, (who cannot then examine you) prior ro taking the exams.
If you contact your club secretary they will have a copy of the BRC publication Exams & Examiners. This will have all the information you need.

I've failed people for leaving a pitchfork in a stable, tieing up incorrectly, & failing to change diagonals in trot.

Thanks Zeberdee - I'll be hopefully doing it through the new RC scheme for riding schools.

My yard is the running the pilot scheme - will get the info from them when I'm next up there

Oh thats fabulous!!!! Keep me up to date with how the scheme going would you? I'd be interested to know how its working from a members point of view.

Sure - will do

And it does work - I'll be posting on here anyway with my thoughts.

It looks like a way for me to get back into riding properly. Just hope lesson prices won't be as expensive as the yard prices are already.

Did you see the article in H&H about it?

Hi Teapot,

I'd be really interested in doing these as they seem much cheaper than the stages. Would you be able to link me to the online syllabus or PM me with any other info? (eg where they are doing the pilot scheme?!)

Thanks
