Has anyone towed with a BMW tourer 328, it says i can tow 1950kg in the guide book, but i would love to know if anyone has actually used one, it is generally useless in the mud/snow etc
they're pretty heavy, but I'd be worried about pulling with a RWD, they're rather twitchy in the wet and don't cope well with mud. I wouldn't want any of those problems with a trailer on the back!
there has been alot of forum questions recently about which cars can pull etc and I know a 4x4 is the safest and best car to pull with but I have to say in the past when desperate and have not been able to afford a 4x4 I have used an estate alfa romeo and even my dads old sierra...I am sure as long as you take it steady, dont do huge hills and the car is long wheel based you should be fine.
I would love to have a 4x4....
Its the RWD bit that worries me most, just one bit of mud....... i think i could just about manage small road journeys and i would have to just make sure there was hard standing to park on! I am trying to convince my OH to learn how to drive and then nag until he agrees to drive a Landy, which i can then borrow for horsey stuff but he wants a small car - boo hoo you would think that after having me drive him around for 15 years he would do what i want for once.
I wouldn't entertain the idea!! You'll end up with the trailer weighing more or nearly the same as the car and it'll pull you all over the place....may even be illegal?? You need to check the weights of the vehicle and laden trailer invloved and not necessarily the towing capacity of the vehicle!
Have asked the chav at the BMW garage and he recons the 1950kg is max weight and I sould knock off about 500kg for safety- wich would mean one 16.2 or under and roads only! he then went on to tell me towing knackers your engine and tried to sell me a X5!!!! I think I will work on the OH a bit more, point out to him that blokes look great in a landy and all the girls at the yard would fancy him (yeah right!)
