I was looking to buy one of these, as I have just had to throw my tarpaulin away,

http://www.baletidy.co.uk/

and wondered if anyone had any experience good or bad of them that they are willing to share, so that I can make a true informed decision.

The product looks rather good, better than struggling with a tarp, but then I wondered how it performs when the bale gets smaller.

Hm. Haven't used one... Just trying to imagine what it would be like when trying to get haylage off going round the bale? Also, as the bales get smaller, what happens then?

Like the theory though! :D

Taking the haylage off by going round the bale is something that I already do, it is nice and easy and does keep the waste to a minimum.

From the look you take the lid off, and then "push" the tube down to the base of the bale.

I am now wondering what material it is made out of, as would it be simpler to get a new tarp and do something creative.....or "pimp my tarp"

I think these are a company who are called bale tidy however I believe shires have something of the same name which goes in your car bit naughty using the same name for a similar product and just changing it to bale tidy uk. Met the man at the trade stand at Your Horse he is very rude so I on't be giving any money to them. At £30 a pop I think they are very expensive and I believe they are not made very well my friend had one which fell apart after one winter so she has now gone back to the tarp save your money. Another of my friends made one out of the haylage wrap and put baling twine through in a lace up fashion looked rather like a corset for the haylage but it works and is free :) xx

I have recently acquired one of these which on first seeing look like a, good idea.
The concept is good but the design in my opinion is flawed.
When the bale is new, the design work well enough, but as you use the hay and the bale changes shape, it begins to loose its effectiveness and the wind easily removes the lid which is secured with two plastic clips.
I have suggested to Bale Tidy that the bag requires a, bottom to it, and use two straps with 4 snap buckles that then secure the lid.
As it stands in its current design, there is, no bottom to the bag, the draw cords on the lid do not tighten effectively, and with only having 2 snap fastenings, the wi d easily removes the lid on the edges that aren't secured.
I have resorted to weighing the lid down with car tyres! Not ideal.
Bale tidy say they have been making these for 10 years without complaint, and yes, the idea itself is a good one but improvements in the manufacture and design would be helpful to make this product completely useful.
