Just wondering if any one has experience of these as thinking of buying one but not sure if they stay in place i.e over the ears. Do they ping off when horses head is own for example?

i have a thin lyrca one and its rubbish for over night! horse puts head down and it goes over ears and slides up neck...... so shaving plaits in the morning

to travel to and from shows etc it works really well and is zipped from top to bottom so much easier to get on/take off!

depends what you want it for?

edit! - ahah vanner i read the title and thought that :D - thinking....how does the horse seee........ very unfair! :S

Oh yes i mean like this...

I want something to stop rugs rubbing her mane, not overly worried about mud when turned out as they don't stop it that much even with eye holes.
Haven't heard great things about the bossy bib mane saver s don't want to fork out for one of those.
I know you can get them from snuggy hoods etc that stop before the ears but worried it will still do the same.

I assume you mean the ones that stop at the top of the neck as opposed to something that covers the eyes with no holes :D

Oops pity i can't change the title didn't think about that as i wrote it!

I definitely don' want to blindfold my horse just to get that straight!!

Some have a loop for use with a headcollar which obviously holds the hood up but I don't like leaving headcollars on...

You can get ones that stop before the ears and if they fit spot on they don't move

Right snuggy sell them and they have been very helpful with sizing.

I agree about not leaving head collars on, i know i should not use combo rugs to stop it really but she's one that feels the cold even though not clipped hmm..

I've got one but I've never used it - tried it on and just wouldn't dare leave him in it overnight as I think it could very easily end up slipping down/coming off and potentially cause a nasty accident. I read something on here once about a horse loosing an eye after panicking whilst wearing one of the ones with eye holes so after that I decided it really wasn't worth it - I would rather his mane get rubbed out by a neck rug than him lose an eye!!

I did.

Absolute cr4p, as my horse was moving freely it pull tight back to ears then ears popped out. By the time i brought her in the neck cover was half way down her neck. sold it in the end

I have quite a few hoods for my pony. One thing I have thought about is altering one to stop above his eyes so it covers more than the ones that only cover the ears, I think this would help it stay put without having to have anything over the eyes

In saying that the only hood he has had that slipped was one that didn't fit properly

Snuggy hoods are good, my boys two snuggy hoods fit perfectly

don't waste your money. My mare had the worst condition here and I managed to stop it rubbing

My mare had Staph aureus. meaning her mane came out with even gently brushing or teasling it out with fingers because the bacteria in the skin attacked the hair root making it prone to coming out . I found the best option was a good turn out with shiny inside so no rubs.

I also brought a thermalux hood and sewed polyester on the inside.

job done.

sadly her condition meant her it would not return again. But this did not rub her mane

the other good thing is http://www.tailgator.co.uk/

I knew of someones horse who wore a lyra version of these hoods and he weaved. Every morning it was pulled over to one side and his eye was so sore and weeping terribly :( never stopped her putting it back on every night though!! >:(

This year is the first year she's come out of winter with a full mane and the only change I have made is to use a thin outdoor neck cover rather than stable neck cover. :)

There are two suggestion I can offer which I use on my boys long mane
1. wash it once a week so no greasy thus wont rub
2.cowboy magic keeps it shinny and makes it not rub.

Snuggy hoods ones do not move and cover eyes, they also do one that stops behind ears so just neck. My girl has been wearing a snuggy hood with ears no zip all winter, 24 hours a day and it has never slipped.

My boy came from his old owner with the Rhinegold one in the link above. It seems to stay in place fine overnight before a show - I like it as I'm not a fan of the full head ones due to the risk of them touching the eyes if they move.

Absolute rubbish! I bought one for my mare in full and shes only a fine tb type and it goes nowhere near fitting her at all. In fact, I think if i'd of left it on over night it would have nearly strangled her!
