My sister used one on her ShirexClydesdale (17hh) She thought it was wonderful, it was on the mildest setting, she had brakes and steering! Before the Peewee she had a bad habit of turning round, the bit would then pull through, she tried it once in the peewee and never bothered again. The mare was much less fussy with her mouth (had previously been in a french link snaffle) and stopped head nodding. She also stopped leaning on the bit. We lost the mare at Easter and the bit is now lent to a woman with a large hunter and she too has brakes and steering, particularly steering.
thanks YorksG, sorry to hear of your loss though. Did you find it easy to fit and I assume you got the large one?? this is also for a Clydesdale about 17hh - his face is massive so need to make sure that it fits!
We got the biggest size, had to use a cat collar for the back strap! We got it from shop4bits on their trial scheme, not sure we would have wanted it on a horse with any bigger mouth than her and she had a 6 1/2 french link, worth getting it on trial for you though. It was very sad when we lost her.
I tried one, but sent it back. On the positive side my horse stopped getting her tongue over the bit. On the negative side, and the major reason why I sent it back, was that she had no brakes in it, and not a lot of steering either. It was just like riding in a headcollar. Also I didnt like the way the bit sort of twisted outwards (although the twisting didnt seem to irritate the horse to be fair)
I agree with oldmare, I had no brakes and couldnt steer and the twisted ring was a pain. Id have to lean forward and try to untwist it, hard to explain sorry. Cant imagine how the strong setting would be stronger either. I think it could be compared to a very very thin mullen mouth snaffle.
