..flower remedies for horses? Sorry, lots of questions. Is there any that you don't acctually give them (like rescue remedy) but just put on your hands, for example, for them to smell, say? Do they have the same effect? Do you have to mix them or is there any you have found work on their own? I was wondering in particular about ones that work for stressed, anxious/nervous horses.

Thanks.

I have used them on myself and tried on my lad, he was having none of it. He just was not interested, but he does love the smell of lavender. He sniffs me a lot if I wear it.
Sorry not much help, have you tried with your horses? It is something I am interested in trying.

I have used Rescue Remedy several times with varying results. It certainly makes a difference to my cob who gets very excited with lots of other horses around he doesn't know, eg at shows, country canters and the like. It just 'takes the edge off' and he is not quite so excited. You can't rely on it though - I also gave it to my mare who is not keen on having her teeth done and it made no difference at all. And then again a sceptical friend gave it to her mare who hated travelling and always arrived dripping with sweat, and couldn't believe it when she took her off the lorry as calm as a cucumber! So worth a go - it may work, but it may not!

Thanks FDC and cream-honeysuckle.

Mainly wondering about smells that calm them down etc or reduce anxiety stress rather than the RR which you have to acctually put on their tongue. Interesting about lavender FDC, I will have to look into that.

Thanks.

I think the flower remedies are given to sniff so that the horse can tell you which one they need at any given time, I have only ever used rescue remedy in the water when on box rest etc with the horses but have also used it on children, dogs, hens and wild birds, with good results in real times of need, ie injury! It is the essential oils that they will sniff and really react to if again they need that oil at that time and sniffing will be enough (as opposed to FR needing to be ingested) I have to admit that I far prefer the homoeopathic remedies as I have seen such impressive results with them and have them in my emergency kit all the time (Arnica and Aconite).

The flower remedies can be put into their water or dropped into their mouth on tongue or under lip.
