Recently, when flicking through the Horse & Hound book 'The Horse and Pony Care Bible', I saw mention of a new system to manage stable bedding; An Enzyme based powder (originally from Italy) which, once established within the bedding, allows a deep litter bed to remain sanitary for 12-18 months.
Quote:
"The mixture of enzymes transforms the urine produced by the horse into a clear, odourless liquid. The ammonia which is so damaging to the respiratory system of both horse and groom is thus eliminated. Any small pieces of dung are also broken down and as the bed matures, the bottom layer begins to compost into a dark peat-like texture."
Sounds interesting. I found a company wedsite selling such a product (Bioanimalhealth) and the blurp appeals but I wondered how it works in reality and whether anyone had experience of such a system on a day to day basis?
