Has anyone used hypnotherapy to overcome confidence issues?

This is not something I would have chosen to use, and I am quite accepting of the fact that I am bloody useless these days, however, I recently read an article about someone who does hypnotherapy especially for riders and in particular confidence issues. It rang so many bells for me, and I started wondering if perhaps all is not lost, and getting excited about what might be if I get over this stupidity!
So I thought I would see if anyone else has experience of it before going for it.

Yes. A few years ago an accident (no worse than many I've had previously!) left my confidence seriously dented. I would shake and feel sick at the thought of getting on so I tried hypnotherapy. Mixed results tbh- the mounting issue literally went away INSTANTLY and I never felt that way again. The rest was more of a drip feed type scenario. I think it got me confident enough to take baby steps forward. I would do it again if I felt I needed to.

Ok, thank you. That is really helpful.
This person has cds available for about £15 so thought I might get one and see how we get on.
My issue is also related to an accident a few years ago, rather than lacking confidence from the start.

Yes, but only one session last year. It did seem to work in the short term although difficult to work out if it's had long lasting effects. I'm still a nervous neddy (it was about xc/hunt jumps) but then again I def have done some quite brave things (for me) this past year and seem to be better at getting a handle on my emotions, although not 100% sorted. I think I would go back again for a refresher.

It was a friend's mum who was qualified and experienced, inc with horsey people.

There have been a couple of threads on HHO so if you do a search you might find some useful info.

Yes - though I think it is important to find the "right" person. Found it very helpful although in hindsight I think it might have been even better with a therapist who was "horsey" herself. Good luck in whatever you decide

I had a confidence booster day in January with Amanda Kirtland-page confidenthorserider.co.uk. highly recommend her, have a look at her website and give her a ring for a chat, she goes all over the country.

That is who I have been considering. I read an article she had written and it just felt like this person knew exactly why I was struggling. I have her page liked on Facebook and she sent me a friend request.
Can you give me a rough idea of cost?

I paid about £90+ travelling as she came to me, for the booster day (as described on her website) worth every penny, I now have lessons with her every 4 weeks £40 an hr including travelling cost. I recommend you ring her and ask her how much etc. she's not pushy and if its too much or not for you, she'll be fine or may be able to recommend someone else. Let me know how you get on, or message me if you want to ask more questions - I'm happy to chat on the phone!

Hi bizarre that your thread should come up as on Monday I bought a confident-rider CD and have used it the last 2 nights. It was either try hypnotherapy or sell my horse and give up riding for good so I figured £9 was a small price to pay.

I have literally zero confidence after a few bad falls and witnessing a truly horrific riding accident. I have a lesson tomorrow on my cob and am hoping so much that the hypnotherapy will have worked - fingers crossed.

All I want to do is get on and go round the block - not a big ask, but a huge challenge in my head...

I had a lovely long chat with a poster from here this morning about confidence issues and hypnotherapy.
There are no courses local to me at the moment, so I am also going to try the cds.
