I have just ordered one as they look great and would save hanging up Bill's huge haynets everyday (when in his yard in winter would eat a bale a day) and I also have the option of soaking them. Also being plastic means that they can stand a bit of abuse I suspect, moreso than the wooden one I was planning on making :p
Has anyone used something similar or this one?

If I had a spare £110 I could think of other things to spend it on to be honest but I like the idea. Just not sure its not something you couldnt knock up yourself.

I guess the plus points are its movable so yu can move it about a muddy field so they dont stand in the same muddy spot all day. Might be a bit of a hazard if its in the middle of a field and they are hooning round etc

Let us know how you get on :)

I'd like something to keep it all together..but don't like that design. I could see them getting sore mouths over time on those plastic edges

I wouldn't buy one purely because I bet my lad would try and climb into it to get to the hay and end up hurting himself.
Is it an enclosed bottom? If so what happens when it pours down with rain?

My mum bought a big wooden composter type thing with slats up the sides (not wide enough to get a hoof through) and he just ended up pulling it to bits to get the hay faster.

We just put piles of hay out on the ground now and to be honest there isn't that much wastage.

my YO gave up with a great gadget which I think she saw some ideas for online.

tack a large drum (water butt type thing)
take the lid off and turn it upsidedown
drill a row of holes around the top (now at the bottom) and cable tie half a hay net to it.
cut the top off the other end of the barrel.
secure with bolts to a fence post and fill with hay/haylage

She then used the bottom of the barrel which had been cut off as lids, secured with more cable ties and bungees to keep some of the weather out off.

I'll get a picture, they work really well.

Looking forward to seeing the picture, they sound great!

The one in the link doesn't look terribly sturdy and as another poster says, the worry would be the horse trying to stand in it/on it! My cob tries to stand in the wheelbarrow so I wouldn't give this gadget very long to live in all honesty! ;)
