Gerry has been on Calm and Condition since I bought him but he's not put on as much condition as I'd like after a couple of weeks so I decided to up his feed.

I brought him in to ride this morning and he was like a child thats been on Red Bull and blue smarties. Really edgy and fidgety. Had to give up on his girth in the end and just set off with it as it was.

Have cut his feed back down to the original levels tonight but am wondering about swapping him onto Baileys Topline cubes instead?

I had my horse on Calm and Condition last winter. I used to give him the full recommended amount and it didn't seem to have an adverse affect on him.
All horses are different though and even giving him the extra calories, regarless of what it says on the packet will increase his energy levels.
Hope you sort it out and you get him back to his normal self.

Nope. But then nothing could send mine loopy. Not even a bomb up his a*rse!

Could he just be sparkly because the sun was out and the season is changing. I've known plenty who get fizzy at this time of year

My TB has been on it for a while with no problems but even he was a **** today ! Think the wind, amount of pumpkins on display and haveing had 2 weeks off did it though ;-)

Try the top spec cool condition cubes. Worked amazingly for my old mare. huge diff in 2 weeks and she was on 4kg a day and she's around 600kg. Calm and condition did nothing for her condition and made her choke!!!

I thought mine had gone abit loopy the other day on it but has settled again. He was jumpy for a couple of days but now nothing :D
He has however put on quite abit of condition, so he was probably a tad fresh at the time.

I used Calm and Condition on my skinny mare for a while. It didn't really seem to make much difference and that was in the middle of summer when she should have put weight on. I now have her on basic leisure mix, alfa a original and speedibeet and she's putting on weight. I think some of the specialist feeds are over rated and sometimes just the simple stuff can work.....

I agree that most of the time simple is best, but i know many people who have had fab results with C&C.. the horse we had on loan recently put on loads of weight and condition and it had no adverse effects on his personality. It may not work for every horse, but i would definatly try it again if i had a horse who needed to put on condition :)

Mine has been on it for about 18 months, she is doing less work now, so on ride and relax, but never any problems with either, and my girl is very loopy, most of the time!:D

Calm & Condition is lower in starch and sugar than some of the traditional conditioining mixes, but although it says that it does not contain barley or oats, it still does contain maize, which is one of the starchiests of cereals! So whilst it will work well on many horses, if your horse is particularly cereal-intolerant it has the potential to make them a bit fizzy! However, Bailey's Topline Cubes are even higher in starch, so might not be any better!

The Top Spec Cool and Condition Cubes are actually grain free, so worth a try. Slightly lower in calories, but still more conditioning than normal horse and pony cubes, are Spillers Response Slow Release Cubes or Allen & Page Veteran Vitality - and these are both grain free too.

I used Calm and condition last year on my boy and I didnt think it sent him nuts but he did look good on it.

Put him back on it month or so ago and as soon as he was on it he went to a super spooky horse than was hard to handle. After a week I took him off it and he been fine since.

I found top spec cool conditioning cubes better for my boy than the baileys topline cubes. He dropped a lot of weight on the baileys ones and been good on top spec ones. So they may be worth a shot :)

100% yes, but thats not me knocking C+C I have seen others thrive on it. Wierdly though oats don't touch her :p I have found that baileys outshine is fab for conditioning, as is Fast Fibre, for some reason though 'calming products' have an adverse effect on my mare! LOL!!

If I want her to be a bit more chillaxed I will put her on her normal feed and add a bit of lincon valerian to it.

Saracen's Releave and their Equijewel have worked on the Dizz and on two ex-racers.

No fizzing or spookiness :D. Also don't have to feed a lot of it, or we haven't.

Dizz is of half of the daily amount recommended, but her work level is a lot lower now and she's been on good grass.

Yep sent two of mine loopy! Did work well for condition though but I just couldn't stand the attitude of both horses whilst on it. Think I'll give the top spec a go.

Mine was on calm & condition for ages and then his behaviour got worse, dont now why.
Any way i was recomended Winery condition as something in it which premotes better behaviour, he's been a lot better on that.

I also feed that with molly chaff calmer which has magnesium in it.

Allen & Page Veteran Vitality - and these are both grain free too.

veteran vitality is definately worth ago my lad has been on it for about 2/3 weeks and his has really bulked out :O he is feed 2.5kg split into 2 feeds, i can comment on the battyness as nothing really send him loopy (well apart from when he was very poorly and we were feeding him enough food to send a competition horse in hard work barmy!)

While C+C did not actually send my mare loopy it did give her much more enegy and oomph and that is the reason I feed it to her.
