I have had my welsh section D 15month old gelded and have decided that i would like to aim high with him within the show ring. He has already showed good prospect for the future by never being placed less then thrid this season locally... i was looking around at all the big shows for welsh and its not often you see geldings all stallions or mares :L is there a chance he could go a far as others even tho he is gelded??May just be me.

Thanks
:o

In hand classes for native breeds are judged on the requirements of the breed standard, or should be, they are looking for future breeding prospects to carry on those standards or improve them, so in one respect a gelding may be put down below an entire, especially if both are of similar quality, the entire may also have a little more presence.
For you though you have done the right thing for your youngster, he can still be shown in hand as a 2/ 3 year old then go on and have a future as a ridden pony where he will be judged on manners, ride etc and not just on conformation and movement. He can lead a good life in any sphere you choose, it may not be showing that he excels in, you can enjoy him without the stress of keeping a stallion.

Unfortunately yes. As above states stallions tend to have more presence, I know a few gelding that's have got placing at county level but at the top it tends to be stallions with the welshies.

Well i am hoping to aim for a ridden career for him in the future so it was just to see if this would ruin are chances as i think conformation wise ect are great. So im only doing inhand for now for experiance for him. Would he still be put down below a stallion in ridden? thanks
:)

I would say it will definately have an effect. Judges who aren't 100% sure of the breeds will assume a horse that has been kept entire MUST be a very good specimen & belong to a stud. That's human nature, they will err on the side of caution. Sad but true.

Bit of a shame in away... I would have loved to have kept him entire but i dont have the place suitable for a stallion i love my horse no matter anyway lol. human nature is so dumb sometimes. lol :D

Jennywren07 is right the WPCS do classes specifically for geldings in-hand and ridden so don't worry. The most important thing is to make sure you and your boy have lots of fun.
