Sorry for numpty question but I swear that I heard a huntsman's horn & the yelping of hounds this morning!! Didn't see anything but both of my ponies turned themselves into 16.2s & were having a bloomin' good look!!
There's always foot following if you want to go and watch, don't worry can actually be done in a car, and at this time off this year it's fairly slow and doesn't tend to cover much ground anyway.
Most West Country foxhound packs started autumn hunting yesterday, 3rd September. However, the Dartmoor, which does not have to worry about harvest or shooting concerns & only to a limited extent about livestock, started as long ago as Saturday, 6th August. Mind you, right at the start it is not always easy to determine when hound exercise turns into autumn hunting!
If you did hear the cry of hounds in August & you are not on Dartmoor or in the stag hunting countries of West Somerset & North Devon, then in all probability you will have heard minkhounds or a foxhound pack getting a little excitement out of an encounter during the course of hound exercise.
