OK, lesson is booked, time to check out my gear. I'm thinking of getting myself a new hat, and the Champion Ventair ones seem to have done well in tests. Am I right in thinking that fixed peak ones are not allowed in eventing? So if I wanted to event later on I'd be better off getting the skull cap version? And ok, this may sound like a daft question! But would putting a silk on the cap interfere with the Ventair feature? Yes, I am oh so vain

I have some Mountain Horse Mountain Rider short boots (hubby has never twigged that they are riding boots, so he never told me off for buying them. He calls them my walking boots, mwahaha!) I have ridden in them, and I think they're OK for riding, but I keep getting confused as some of the paddock boots they make are not ok for riding. But I think these have a big enough heel. Does anyone else ride in them?

Thanks in advance for any help

I've got a Champion Ventair, and absolutely love it. You're right in thinking that you can't event in a fixed-peak hat....I am dealing with that one by promising myself that if i ever get good enough to event, I'll simply treat myself to a new skull cap. Eventing is a long way off for me !

I have the Mountain Rider II boots. They are designed for riding, so the tread is not too heavy or anything, and they won't get stuck in your stirrups. They aren't good for my foot position, but I have funny feet - my best friend has the same boots and she swears by them. i find most things labelled as "paddock boots" are frequently no good for riding, but the ones that are OK say something like "riding outsole" on the advertising or on the box.

I have a Charles owen Adventura, and it has vents so your head doesn't get hot (and it doesn't!) A silk doesn't effect the vents on my hat.

Don't have the boots you have but I'm pretty sure you can ride in them.

Thanks for the replies! I am going to check to see if my 5 year old hat is up to today's standards, and might hold off on getting myself a Ventair for a couple of months. Hurrah for imminent birthdays!
