My nearly 5 year old daughter has a long and narrow head, as the back of her skull is quite rounded and sticky-outy, which makes fitting hats really difficult.

I've been round the local saddleries hoping to find someone with good knowledge of how different hat brands fit, but no luck.

Does anyone know which brands I could try which would be more likely to fit this shape of head?

Thanks

For a 5 year old you could look at a cycle type helmet. The Pony Club won't allow a child under 9 in a traditional type hat as they are too heavy for a young neck and actually cause more damage. You may find that the additional adjustability in a cycle type will meet your needs.

Or you could go for the halfway house of a Polly or a Troxel which are light weight and adjustable via a dial at the back of the hat. I think troxell make an adult one at current PC standards - but the Polly one isn't so far as I know.

i have the same problem with one of my 4 year old twins, the saddleries havent been that helpful really at all sadly (although they did try to sell me one that clearly didnt fit and was way too loose!)
you can have the sides built up with padding etc but i dont really feel that fully solves the issue so i am being a naughty mum, he either doesnt wear one or he uses one of my olllldddddd ones from when i was a child which doesnt meet any of todays standards, but - its not too much of a bad fit TBH! He only ever rides to or from the field with me leading on an elderly shetland hence its not like he is wizzing around hatless.
