I've been competing my old boy in a cardboard hat.

Obviously I'm the one wearing the hat, he has a jolly nice bridle.

I'm about to start competing a young horse and have a bit of a safety vs vanity dilemma as my ancient old crash hat really looks the pits but I'm at that age when self preservation dictates that my Beagler (which has on the label: unsuitable for horse riding) is not a sensible choice. Is there such a thing as a BSI hat that would not look out of place in affiliated dressage?

The Charles Owen H2000 is really nice, and looks good for dressage

I think a good compromise is a Charles Owen H2 or Showjumper if you can stretch to it. They look about the best of the new style hats but remember it's hard to look elegant being carted away in an ambulance, head wounds bleed profusely and the human skull is more fragile than most of us realise!
