Hate,hate........

......as with most mornings of filling haynets (I despise trying to cram square sections of hay into mesh contraptions!) I stood there holding the mesh thing, thinking.....what else do I hate concerning the jobs you have to do round horses and the other one was brushing muddy horses as horse ends up clean, and you end up wearing the dust! Funnily enough I don't mind mucking out,I know all that you do for your horse is through love,and all the things involved round horses is part of it.....but, I bet there is parts of the care side you hate too!

I too hate hate hate filling haynets, I am so allergic to hay I spend the rest of the day itchy and sneezing. If I could afford hayledge I'd feed it no question. I don't mind mucking out, and long necked rugs are great for mud prevention.

I hate filling up water buckets but my yards has automatic water feeders now thank god!!

I hate picking feet out - I have no idea why - I just wish pony would do it herself!!!

Haynets are my pet hate too. Have tried haybars, but one refuses to eat out of his, one sat on hers

, one pulls all the hay out of hers and mixes it in the bed

and the other one does the same - so they weren't a great success.

I always used hayracks with mine- but the riding stables i worked at used nets and i would end up looking like a cactus with all the thistles sticking in me!
Not so bad for one horse but when you have 30 plus nets to fill its not fun!

Erm... was thinking of buying one

I think my cob would see it as one form of bum rubbing and then completely mesh it.......OK i think I'll save me dosh on that one then...thanks for the advice!

When I was on DIY I bought enough nets to cover the entire week, then I used to do a whole week's worth at the weekend. Makes life so much simpler during the week. Plus you only get to do the horrible job once a week

There are loads of different ways of feeding hay, but I still think the lowly net is the best !

do you soak your hay? if so, fwiw...
i use old horsehage bags (the right size, and nice strong plastic) with lots of Vs cut out along the bottom for drainage, and put 1 or 2 flaps of hay in at a time to soak. unlike wet haynets which cut your fingers, these don't. then i just drain them and empty them out on the floor.
i only fill haynets for travelling now, and i don't mind that so much!
jobs i hate: grooming muddy horses, and getting it all stuck all over me.

I'd love to be able to do that but our hay comes in the big round bales, by the time you've pulled off enough you might just as well shove it in a net.

I dont mind filling haynets, picking out feet or grooming or even mucking out (most days, there seems to be the odd time here and there where i hate doing anything haha).

But i do HATE cleaning tack.

I suppose we all have one thing or another that we dont like doing.
