it makes my tummy turn over!!! a very good freind of mine who has been riding 40 years mainly mad horses! was out on her daughter pony when the pony slipped and she came off - she was luckily wearing a new hat which saved her life - but she suffered brain trauma and now has trouble with speech/memory and other things - she cannot ride or go running which she was passionate about - cannot work (she loved her job) nor can she drive - a lesson for everyone i think.
I completely agree....a lady who I passed in the road the other day was not wearing one and her horse was dancing all over the road and in the end up the bank....the horse its self looked high quality but strong and the horse only has to jump, buck or even rear and thats it...also its no good saying the horse is extremely well behaved as sometimes things happen out the blue which can cause problems...
I dont feel right not wearing a hat, bit like driving a car with no seatbelt....
I think its ridiculous, however last time i picked up on the topic i got slaughtered for it!! i landed straight on my head off a normally bombproof pony last summer......(i was wearing a hat, a new pale pink one at that :-( )
I cant stand people that take there hats off or do not wear a hat on any horse, horses are unpredictable animals! even the most bombproof horses can have a blip!

Maybe the pony took acception to being ridden by someone wearing a pink hat!
