So I am just pre-emptively planning Burghley shopping.

I seem to have a pretty oval head, champions don't fit at all, charles owen sort of do but tend to gap at the back and be too tight at the front. Currently have a HS1 which is fine in winter but gives be pressure headaches in the front in summer I tend to use it for anything 'exciting'. Because of the headache issues and a tendency towards extended hacks I also have a gatehouse air rider with a dial in it which is a saving grace in summer because I can let it out if my head seems to have expanded. BUT it is only EN1384 rated, and while I am happy using it on Frank I am riding a few other beasts now etc.

I rather hoped that the CO 4star might resolve the headache issue but it seems to be a rounder fit that their others so that doesn't work. Tried the ProII on but same result as usual with a CO- they would have to pad the back and I suspect too tight at the front.

Are there any PAS rated hats with dials? Any skull hat suggestions that would be worth trying that fit similar to the HS1 as the best found so far? Some velvets seem to fit me better but I don't really want/need one of those!

I bought a Uvex hat a couple of months ago that's up to standard which has a dial plus adjusts for depth. Lovely hat and around £100. I don't know what shape my head would be though, although CO usually fit me well.

Thanks dixie :), I'm not sure the air rider is the perfect shape (and in winter I use it with two liners (Frank stuck his foot in the first one I had!) ) but because of the dial it moulds round a bit better. Longer term I will be looking at getting another beast of my own but having used the HS1 a bit in the last two weeks because I've been riding a couple of proper sized horses has just been a bit painful!

fab wheels, I haven't tried one of them but thought I would go and have a chat with gatehouse anyway given they will know how the HS1 fits compared to their others. My old velvet is a gatehouse too - got that on a deal at badders.

Googleing for a reply to you and I came across this article from H&H last year.http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/buyers-guides/best-adjustable-riding-helmets-531042

The gatehouse air-rider is listed as being PAS015 albeit not suitable for XC because of the peak. It might be that you just need a new one? The PROtector is even SNELL standard if you want top of the line safety!

Thanks shay Yup I have the mark II (the peak comes off) which is in fine nick but mostly given that I do have to use two liners with it (once the first one squished a bit) I'm not sure it would ever be the sort of fit I'd happily do more exciting stuff with/on more exciting horses. - I'm only a 56 so my head fits in the small one but it's far too shallow. I'm just much happier having the hs1 on my head in that respect.

TP the 4star was round, hence was told the try the pro as the opposite but I felt it still wasn't as good as the Hs1.

Definitely going to do the tour around and see if anything works better :) but helpful to have some ideas.

I loved my Uvex (until I fell off and now I have to replace it - bah!) but I didn't think they were PAS?
