Alisha is on box rest due to a hairline fracture of the pedal bone. She has been on rest for a month and is now allowed to walk out for 10 mins twice a day. I have to give her ACP to walk her out at the moment as, as you can expect she is fairly on her toes having spent 4 weeks in the stable. However, each afternoon when she is having a snooze (standing up) she falls forward almost onto her knees and has a cut each side just above her fetlock from when she does this, which keep being re-injured from when she falls forwards.
So, should I take her off the ACP again and not walk her out or keep ACPing to walk out and just bandage her legs? I am not keen to take her off the ACP and walk her out as at the moment that could be a recipe for disaster! Any ideas welcome

She was on 4 every evening so she could be hand grazed, cut this down to 2 in the evening and she was still falling over - vet said to give her 5 in morning and 5 at night but that was far too many. She is having 8 to be walked out.
She is having the tablets about 5pm and then falling over about 2-3ish the following day!

Are you sure its the acp's doing this or could it be a coincidence that you are having another problem at the same time? Why dont you try her without for a few days and see if it still happens??

Weird.... sounds unrelated to me..... more like narcolepse (sp)!!!

If you think about it, a sedated horse will be far more affected than acps at that amount, and they manage not to fall over (usually)!!!

Have taken her off the acp so will monitor it for a few days, she seemed a lot more alert tonight than she has been so maybe she had too much acp in the system...
