Have a tricky situation RE loaning

Hi,
I have some decisions to make concerning my loan horse. She is lazy in the school (sometimes won't even trot on) and is very nappy to go out hacking alone (most of the time there isn't anyone to go out with). I'm willing to school her up and improve this, however the owner doesn't really ride her much in the winter so sometimes I'm the only person riding her in the week. I only loan her once a week so in that time I actually want to enjoy riding and get something out of it. However, the yard is absolutely lovely and so friendly- the kind of yard where people who you have never even talked to before ask you how you're doing and if you're riding today!
So, I either re-advertise and see what happens, perhaps ending up on a not so nice yard with a not so nice owner, or carry on with the mare on the lovely yard, and not really get anywhere with her.
What do you all think?

Sounds like you could do with an instructor to give you lessons on her in the school. At least for a few weeks, and then maybe drop it down to once a fortnight or once a month. When a horse is lazy in the school, assuming they are not in pain, then the problem usually lies with the rider. Often if the rider nags with the legs, it will get zoned out and the horse becomes 'dead to the leg'. There are ways around this, and to have your horse sharp and responsive to the leg. But really this should be done under guidance of an instructor who is there to see where the problem lies.

Yep, I've been desperately trying not to nag with the leg, ie as soon as she goes forwards stop squeezing, however this just doesn't work as as soon as I take the leg off, she just goes back down to walk again. Personally, I don't particularly want to be spending even more money on lessons weekly/fortnightly, however I could try one and see if I want any more.
Thanks Wagtail

speak to the owner she may be happy to give you a few lessons or maybe they would look at finding another sharer to get the pony fitter and you can both work on schooling the pony and get her going better

Agree with wagtail. One of mine does exactly this with my sister-and worse. When I ride her, she gets on with it and I can take her around a course of jumps no problem. So it's not the horse but the rider. Perhaps the owner could find another sharer for the horse so she is exercised more than once a week? Or owner could give you lessons when you cant afford an instructor?
