There certainly seem a lot more coming up for sale and coming up again at reduced price especially youngsters
Prices are lower than that for similar up here.

I think it depends largely what you're looking for.

Cobs (including Welshies), TBs and small ponies, prices seem to be getting closer to what they were - though not quite.

ISH, Connie, Warmbloods...yeah no they're still up there!

I'm not in the market for another horse yet (and a youngster is too much for me) but it is fun to browse. 😊 I'm definitely a pony/small horse lover and thought this one was rather cute:

The price doesn't seem too bad considering what they have been, are things improving? I just think this guy looks a sweetheart. 😍

I'd eat my hat if he's 13.3hh, the way the rider has her knees scrunched up.

My thinking is because of that. The prices of everything going up meaning people can’t afford to keep horses and need to get rid fast?
I hope you're right but I think the more expensive end, competition horses will stay expensive...might see the greener ones going for less I suppose but I can't see us ever going back to the days pre covid prices x

Thats not a good example of a decent cob not worth that money in my opinion.

People have to pay their mortgages and bills before buying new horses unfortunately.
Just because some people have other priorities doesn’t mean prices will come down. For low end horses, yes they may well do. For well schooled decent conformation they won’t, there aren’t enough being bred.

Looking at a local site, horses seem to be getting cheaper, ponies are still at a ridiculously high prices. I can’t believe some of the prices people are asking for a bog standard pony that would have been half the price or less before Covid.

I think it's a confusing time at the moment and people don't know what to charge. Price of puppies has gone down I think.

There seems to be even more of a divide now between people with plenty of money and people who are struggling, so maybe the high end of the market will stay high and the price of horses and ponies for mere mortals will drop.

I have been looking at horsequest daily since November time as my sister and friend were looking for horses and i will be looking in the not so distant future so i have been browsing. Not a lot are selling, i keep seeing 90% of adverts keep coming back up for sale and being slightly reduced every time- i keep telling myself not all these horses can be failing vettings/ have major issues so i think its a possibility that prices may drop. Obviously people arent buying at the moment so we shall see in the next couple of months as spring is normally i would say when most people buy.

My anecdotal experience in the current market is prices have dropped a little however the real change is how much the market has slowed. Generally horses are hanging around for sale for much longer and slowly getting reduced. You are getting the odd come up at pre covid price and selling quickly.

Not much quality for sale, I think people are holding onto the nice things and the not so nice getting rid before the going gets really tough financially. Most yards I know that sell are struggling, they certainly aren’t flying off the shelves and with feed and hay adding up it’s hard.

But as others noted, this time of year is probably the slowest in the horse market. And despite the current good weather we all know winter isn’t over. It will be interesting to see how everything develops over Spring and Summer.

It's a green five year old that has another 3 years of developing to do. From what the advert says and shows (which is always just the shop window obviously) he looks like he could be a cracking little chap for a small adult or a child. What would you expect to pay for a safe, solid pony who looks pretty chilled out, happy in traffic, happy at speed in the open with other horses, and will probably be a smart looking animal in a couple of years' time?

Honestly, horses have been vastly under-priced for far too long, they are about the price they should be now, and with any luck if prices stay strong and people who can afford to buy a horse are a bit more particular about what they spend their money on, it will stop all the bin end breeders from producing poor quality animals that can't stand up to any job and end up on a lorry to France.

I'm mid search for a Connemara.

Prices still high and horses selling almost immediately - lots of adverts are staying online but I've contacted them and they've sold days previously.

I hear what your saying and I also think that horses have been under valued for a long time, and yes he probably will suit someone one day it's probably a lot to do with personal preference I like what I like.
I just didn't think he was a great example of a cob.

Sometimes horses are readvertised because no one’s actually turned up to see them despite arranging to do so.

I agree he doesnt look a great example at the moment but it’s cost someone to get him that far so the price is probably reasonable, just not one O’Donnell be going to see.

Yeah the odd person maybe but i sold a a horse last summer and had over 50 enquiries - i booked viewings for 2 weeks straight and started turning people away after that, the second person to view bought him, but yeah maybe a couple wouldnt have turned up but 80% would have - theres just not the demand at the moment

I'd really like another fjord, but they are like hen's teeth so that's unlikely to happen! If I was looking I would be after a safe happy hacker, so apart from the fact I don't mind a short horse I'd be wanting the proverbial unicorn.

I do think that prices have been too low for too long, it was heartbreaking when you used to hear of ponies at sales going for about £50.
