Have pulled mane, now what to do with forelock?

I now sound like a total numpty, I know. I've only ever had TBs and fine types with about 3 hairs in their forelock, until now. I've spent years trying to encourage forelocks to grow, but now my new horse has this enormous bushy long forelock and I haven't the first clue what to do with it.

I've pulled his mane which is now the right length and much thinner (albeit resembling a mohican - much dampeing and flattening/laying required) but this forelock is now looking even sillier by contrast. Can you pull a forelock? Should it be short and bushy, short and thin, long and thin, or long and bushy (please god no to the latter).

I tried pulling a few hairs out but I felt a bit mean for some reason, so I thought I'd best ask before I did any more :rolleyes:
 
I find that if you comb with a metal mane comb, you will eventually thin it, just pull a few strands day by day, starting on the outside and the underneath. It sounds as though you have gone a bit mad with the mane, but wet the mane and leave it plaited it up for a week and it will lose the mohican style, and will all sit on one side., just use long plaits, ie don't turn them up and over.

Hmm I've been combing it with metal mane comb every day for 2.5 months, and it's just getting bushier and bushier!

Oh and yes, I did go a bit mad with the mane - I love mane pulling and my last horse had about 2 hairs per inch so I couldn't dare pull it! Although the current mane stood up like a mohican before I pulled it, don't worry :D it was just the weight of the extra length that made it flop over at points, now it doesn't have the weight, it doesn't flop so much. Plus where the rug had rubbed before I bought him, the last 12-18 inches of mane all stands up on end no matter what!
 
You should be able to just pull it like you've done the mane, do it in small sections. If your horse doesn't like it, you could use a solo comb but back comb it to the root and cut it at the root this will thin the forelock out. My friend bought this rake thing she uses on her horses mane and forelock, I'll try and see what it was, maybe furminator for dogs

I've always pulled forelocks just like manes. None of my horses seemed to mind at all and it usually comes out alot easier than the mane
 
Pulled my mares forelock this morning while she ate, she didn't mind at all, came out really easily. She doesn't like the bit behind her ears doing so i expected her to hate the forelock but she didn't mind at all.

one third of the mane down, two thirds to do....any takers, it's just a TB mane but got long.
