Have you ever asked someone off here to go

i think their was a thread a while ago about people going to look at horses for other people to make sure the trip was worth while for them. where abouts is the horse.

Yeah, I would, if it were someone on her with a decent reputation and a high profile. Could certainly help avoid a totally wasted trip.

Do you not think it's abit cheeky to ask a near on complete stranger to go out of their way to help someone out.I mean i would do it with out a second thought, but for me to ask someone i would be highly embarrassed.

Wudnt the world be a far nicer place if we all did something nice for someone, especially someone we dont know ........................

I'm not sure if I would.

Everyone has such different views on horses that it would be confusing. What one person thinks is a nice forward horse another might think is a complete maniac. The horse may be beautiful in one persons eyes ugly in another's etc.

I'd go for someone too but I wouldnt want them to buy on my say so alone.
Id feel terrible if it all went wrong,

You are right Monkeybum. Not everybody likes the same thing.I dont think i would ask someone to go and look at a riding horse. The horse in question is only a yearling,so it is just a case of quick check over for lumps and bumps and movement and most important to me is the temperament.

Why is it a cheek? I call it resourceful myself but yes you would need to be very careful about who you ask and what the whole horse criteria was. I'd do it for someone.

I probably wouldn't ask someone directly but a general post asking would be fine, that way only someone that wanted to do it would go

I would! In fact good point anyone lightweight (10 st or under) and pref smaller avaliable to come and try what is by all accounts a bombproof pony in Kent? I live in Watford and am driving down their, its sevenoaks so the london side of kent (so anyone from those areas)! Being serious my friend who was coming has pulled out so now I have no rider!!

Thanks guys..My hubby is more keen on this horse than me..only because of the distance though. He says a road trip will be fun.He thinks we should go up with the trailer,,keen or what. But if someone could maybe give it the once over first that might save alot of time and fuel.

Yes I have - but I made sure I asked someone who I knew was a very experienced rider, who knew what they were talking about/looking at. I had a long phone conversation with them about what I was looking for and made arrangements to pay for their time and expenses (still an awful lot cheaper than travelling to the other end of the country).

Unfortunately the horse was sold before they got to see it but, in the right circumstances, I would do it again. :D

I'm not sure OP meant asking someone out of the blue, but often people offer to go look for other people on here. I guess that's what the OP meant.

Obviously you'd want the person going to look on your behalf to take lots of photos and vids for you!

I would happily go a see a horse for someone on here- i think I could few its 'through their eyes' if i had a brief of what they were looking for, but i also think you can't help your own tastes creeping in either.

I quite fancy being the Kirsty Allsopp of horse finding

Not asked anyone on here to look at a horse for me but have on another Forum. It was a long way away and I implicitly trusted the person who was viewing on my behalf. Had the horse been okay then the plan was that I would go down (a good 5 or 6 hours drive but only 40 mins from the other lady). The horse wasn't what it was advertised at all so was really glad to have set it up this way.

I'm on similar thinking terms here with Monkey. I only say this as when I was looking for a second horse, I went to a breeders yard to view 7 horses. One horse was my favourite as per his advert, tick all of my boxes if you like, and I was certain he was the one for me. Another advert was of his half brother, and I hated his advert, and wasn't interested in him whatsoever. So obviously, I bought the latter! Hey, it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind lol! :p

So bearing that in mind, I can't even go on my 'own tastes', I would be concerned that I would make the wrong judgement for someone else. But having said that, I guess if it is a stone throw away from where I live, at least if I did look for someone, I could say whether I thought it was a 'genuine' sale, but I wouldn't want to elaborate overly much more than that. Then it would be their decision whether to view the horse afterwards. xx

Very nearly! There was a horse I was interested in in Shropshire and I'm in Kent. Martlin very very kindly offered to view him for me and, because it was someone on here I respect I would have been very happy to go with her judgement. As it happens the owner kept changing stories, one minute the horse was a fabulous hack, the next it had only ever pootled round the farm and never on the road etc etc. So in the end it never happened.

So I would say yes, if the right person offers and they know exactly what you are looking for

Edited to say, I am the worlds worst person at buying horses so actually I would probably be better off if almost anyone looked at the horse than me :D

ETS: If you do want any help; let me know. I'm not the most experienced person, but do know people who would be happy to help, and I myself dont mind :)

That's a great offer :)

Even if she looked at the horse and maybe took some pics of it's current condition, possibly even saw the owner ride him, then at least you could judge if it was worth making the trip over.

So many horses you can just look over the stable door and spot a potential problem which is soul destroying if you've just travelled 200 miles :(

This could catch on...

The horse in question is only a yearling it is just a case of looking over to check for lumps and bumps and maybe see him move around abit.He looks a friendly chap in his photo's but of course you cannot tell from that.

Hello you:)

In this situation, what with horse only being a yearling, then yes I would. for a ridden horse, than definitely no.

You could always have a chat with the owner and maybe arrange for a local vet to check him over - a kind of mini-vetting.
