Have you ever bought a horse without doing a vetting?

Got to admit that the best horse I ever bought was one that was an impulse buy and I bought her immediately. The other horses I've had were more expensive and they had a full vetting and blood samples taken and they've all been wonky donkey's in one way or another. I really don't know what I'd do IF there was a next time.

I've never had any of mine vetted; mainly because I couldnt afford it!

My last pony I bought off a dealer and didnt have any problems with him, however the person who bought him from me had him vetted which he passed with flying colours even when he had a few splints (not caused by me!)

The horse I have now didnt get vetted either, but like baymareb I bought him the same day because I fell in love with him and the owners said they had someone really intrested in him coming to see him after me, so I had to get him before anyone else did!
Plus the owners who I bought him from only had him for a few months and didnt do much with him, but when they bought him he was vetted, and passed even though he had slightly capped hocks, a splint and a slightly weaker left side; which doesnt effect him!

I shamefully dont even know how much a vetting is. They only horse I have bought that cost more than 1k was Winston and I had known him for a while any way.

New question to the mix....

Why would you get a horse vetted if you are not planning on competing the horse in any way?
