I have a huge favour to ask of you I am in my final year of my degree at Moreton Morrell and i'm currently in the process of collecting information for my dissertation and wondered if you lovely lot would help me get some more information? Went to fill it in but.........the wages bit threw me somewhat!!!!!!

OK so it was a long time ago but it worked out at an average 8-10 hours a day 7 days a week for the princely sum of £12pw

So, excuse my bad maths but......that makes an hourly rate of roughly a fraction over 21p...............

Agree with Fairytale. Long hours with little pay. Think it was £10pw at start! (over 30 years ago). A later job in a small stud was £50pw. That was amazing!

Done - I also struggled with the wages as my hourly rate varies depending on if I am teaching freelance privates or freelance in a riding school.

Done! The hourly rate also threw me, since Monday I have done 4 12hr days and today was a 14hr day. Friday was just the 10! 72 hours for £260 a week so £3.60 an hour. I've actually never sat down and worked it out before!

However, I also get at least one, sometimes 3 days hunting a week, my flat, a car when mine breaks, odd bits of cash given to me to get my hair cut, buy a dress, ball tickets paid for, have been bought a new Patey this year and get brought a hot chocolate with Baileys in every day at 4pm.

Its not a bad life!
