Once.... when the whole class including myself complained that the first fence in the course was too big! And it was, a big square oxer full up to height and the coursebuilder did put it down
a couple of times! often little things but got one course builder to change an entire related distance as was so badly wrong (on a half stride going in to a double)! had back up from several competitors though!
Yes, once when the back rail of an oxer was lower than the front rail, because the hole they needed to use on the back set of wings was ruined. They changed it looking sheepish (think they were hoping no-one would notice, lol!)
Yes , same thing as legend. I havent ever thought "God that needs to be changed" if its affiliated, but am a stickler at RC events just cuz Im annoying ! I built the last SJ shows courses and am living in fear of showing myslef up!
Yeah, it was a little unaffiliated SHEPC show at Plumpton, and the course was actually crazy. Jump one was one end of the arena, and to get to jump two you had to wiggle through a few jumps to the opposite end of the arena, then do a half ten metre circle, then after that, you landed in the corner of the arena, and literally had to do a 270 degree canter pirouette to get to fence three. X_X It went on like that.
Oh and the double they put up wasn't even measured for distance! One person put the first part up, and another person came from the other direction and put the other half up. They then put the last fence up to about 3'6 (was a 2'6 class), then shuffled around for a bit with other jumps, then went out of the arena, then ran back in and changed it to the right height.
This "course" took them an hour to build after the first class, and another hour to change after a load of us went up to them to complain.
At a an event we went to 2 years ago, the ground that the SJ was sat on was deeply rutted and damaged having been the warm up for a pony club event two weeks earlier (which had taken place in heavy rain, and by this point the ground was solid again). We threatened to withdraw and make an official complaint to BE because it was not adequate for an affiliated event. They took the course to bits and harrowed it!
Our yard is run by a BSJA course builder who does most of the major international BSJA shows. She also does many BE events, and at my most recent one the first jump was infront of the trade stands, which distracted my horse and led to a stop at the first as I din't make him concentrate. I complained to her afterwards, and she apologised saying that the trade stands weren't there when she set up, otherwise she wouldn't have done it.
